In another Examiner article, Rob Wilson is pretty straightforward about where the Petes are at right now and what the expectation is going forward.
Some of the potential returning players have been put on notice, Wilson said, that they’ll be fighting for their jobs at training camp.
“There are no promises to anybody, and we told everybody that. We’ve gone through the most difficult time of this process and now there are no promises to anybody. They had better be ready to come back and earn it and who knows where the summer will take us,” he said.
“Now it’s about building a quality team for the next two to three years.”
discussing the young guys in the lineup and how they may have been a disappointment......
Without a better supporting cast around them, Wilson said it’s premature to make judgments.
“For all our young guys, there is still time for guys to prove they can be really, really good players in this league,” he said.
One of Wilson's standard lines about a player's commitment to the team is: "You are either IN or you are IN THE WAY".
He also discussed the goal for next year.......
“Our goal is definitely to make the playoffs and try to be .500 or better and try to make some noise in the playoffs. What’s going to be interesting for us as a coaching and management group is to see who is going to be able to handle those demands because the demands are going to be high,” he said.
“If that’s not in guys’ DNA or makeup, then they’ll find they won’t be a part of the process going forward.”
Amen to that!
They could sell tickets to camp next year......it should be very competitive.
