Peterborough Petes 2024 25 Season Thread Part Ii

With the D core and goaltending that's available, the offence is by far the biggest thing that needs to be addressed. Far too many games that were held to one or less goals for.

There were certainly lots of times when it seemed the defence was a bit fed up with the forwards not scoring and tried to do it on their own. But as mentioned above, that's what the forwards are supposed to be doing and the spot where the team is lacking quite a bit at the moment. Injury problems throughout the entire year didn't help any either but with a deep talent pool that can be played through, that certainly wasn't this season.

With the assumption that the imports are capped at 2 that was likely the plan but if the numbers change it could certainly change his plans too, similar to the NCAA changes, won't really know till everything shakes out.

Speaking of import players though, congrats to Tommy Purdeller who won ICEHL Rookie of the Year this season.
I believe this team is full of skilled players that can score but due to the system that the Coach wants to play all the time they are hancuffed. You could draft all McGregor, Cam Warren (JRC), Max Delisle (Titans), Charlie Murata (DMF), and Jaako Wysick (Sun County) and still nothing will change except their numbers will go down like the current players have. We certainly don’t have any Parekh’s on this team and need to find D that can move bodies and let the goalies see the puck and make good outlet passes tape to tape so we’re not icing it 30 times a game.

Rye looks ready to take on number 1 role moving forward so maybe there’s a move there for some big 06 stay at home D

Congrats to all below:

In total, 13 awards were given out on the night, including the following:

  • Mark Teevens Memorial Award (most assists) – Braydon McCallum (22 assists)

Part 1 – The 1st overall pick and the plan for the rest of the picks.
There isn’t an obvious #1 pick but it looks like it will be one of these guys:
Murata, McGregor, Warren, Wycisk or Delisle

With the Petes having two picks in each of the 2nd and 3rd rounds, Oke will likely trade some of these for future picks.

This is a great breakdown! I expect Oke to make some pick swaps as well which spreads the picks out to fill the roster but also to use as potential chips at the deadline. As we saw during our championship season, you can never have enough 2nd and 3rd round picks as those are the picks that get deals done and it would be nice to really try to stock that cupboard up

Is that actually the draft cache for Oshawa right now? That's kinda insane, Is there a player upcoming in the next few years they're expecting to get exceptional status?

@Generalsupdates on X ( https://x.com/generalsupdates ) is the person who keeps track of draft picks and trades for OHL fans, so I figure Oshawa's picks should be accurate.

Here is the link to the google doc he keeps up-to-date. He does a great job IMO.

OK Petes' fans.......who do you like for the #1 pick?

I think it's either Delisle or McGregor, but I guess we'll see.

@BigDevs93 gave this detailed breakdown on the 2009 prospects OHL draft thread (much appreciated!)

#1 Max Delisle - #1A Centre, versatile, tough, strong skater, excellent goal scorer, responsible transition play, loose cannon, match-up centre, physical, tough to play against, can do it all.

#2 Kaden McGregor - #1A Centre, dog on a bone, two-way, plays every shift like his last, highly skilled, great teammate, leader, tough to play against, character that you know will do whatever it takes.

#3 Camryn Warren - Centre but could be a better winger, dynamic, best skill in the draft, vision, speedy, hockey IQ, smaller but doesn't get hit often, potential of the charts, play driver.

#4 Charlie Murata - Could play centre/wing but probably a winger, best vision in the draft, loves the puck on his stick, great skater, could end up being the best point producer in OHL, leader, drives play, highly skilled.

#5 Jakkoo Wycisk - Sniper, 1A Centre, great active stick, playmaker, responsible defensively, smooth, Roobroeck effect (maybe he's over scouted, and has a lackadaisical approach to his game leaving you wanting more), but could be the best overall player in the age group.

#6 Brock Chitaroni - 1A Centre, explosive, creative, not scared of trying new things, unpredicatable, sniper, solid balance, play driver.

You can start to understand why the top of the draft is unpredictable. The variety, which is nice but it's tough to evaluate. This draft will be exciting, there's 5-6 players who could go number 1, there's 35-40 players who could go in the first round, and there's 50-75 players who could go in the 2nd round.

Warren, McGregor, Murata for me. But it seems like we really can’t go wrong this year which is pretty exciting! Hopefully Oke and co make the right call

So many questions to be asked and answered between now and when the puck drops in Game #1 next season.....

Part 2 – What will the OA situation look like next season?

Bowen (OA) – trade
Jenken (OA) (RD)
Page (OA) (LW)
Faulkner (OA) (LW)

Bowen will not be back. Let’s hope Oke can get a couple of picks for him.
This team needs impactful OAs. The OAs need to be character guys who play the game the right way (like Melee, Bryant and Stonehouse) but also have higher offensive upside. Page and Faulkner have been decent but Oke needs to aim higher in hopes he gets someone who lights a spark under the younger forwards.
Matthew Jenken is a player I’m not sure about. Like Page and Faulkner, I think he’s decent but he only played 30g this year because of injury. To avoid shipping out lots of picks for three slight OA upgrades, I think one of these three may on with significant upgrades made to the other two.

Teams who are short on future draft picks and/or have too many prospective OAs are potential trade partners.
Here are a few possibilities but I’m throwing darts as I have no idea if these players will definitely be back for an OA season and if their team would deal them to the Petes.

I wonder if a team that needs a young goalie would look at the numbers Masen Johnston is putting up in OHL + OJHL and consider him in a package for a decent overage player.

That way the Petes can run Easton Rye and Dylan Lee-Stack in net

1. McGregor
2. Warren

Faulkner - Best defensive player on team +4 and started to show offensive skill in last half with more ice, lots of upside if given opportunity
Jenken - Big body but not sure he can stay healthy to help
Page - Gritty, needs to engage more
Bowen - Trade for D or picks

Taylor McCallum Fitzgerald (My Apologies on Fitzgerald)
McGregor Young Faulkner
Page. Partridge Parrish
Doxtator Levac Addy or Trade

Gowan Cameron
Strohack Jenken
Ula Ladds

Rye

There's also a (as far as I understand) a second overall import pick upcoming, and with it being his draft year with the prospects game here I'd think there's a decent chance Novotny comes over as well.
A longer shot is Hage coming up from Chicago, but who knows with the current landscape.

I've been blocked by him since his feelings got hurt in the comeback game last season so makes sense I hadn't seen it
