Peterborough Petes 2024 25 Season Thread Part Ii

I saw development this season with players listed below. I did not list players who I think could have developed more like Addy, Taylor and Young - who all had flashes of brilliance but if they did have observable development it was on the defensive side of the game as per the coaches' priority)

2008s: Fitzgerald (skilled and big, gets points)
Ula (fast, creative, physical, not bad for a 5th round pick)
Gowan (over the season played with more confidence, good skater)
2007s: Cameron (reliable, wins puck battles and has had to carry a huge load at a young age) Honestly I don't care where he is on the NHL draft rankings)
Parish (what he lacks in size he makes up for in peskiness and creativity, goes to dirty areas)
2006s: Rye (for me the biggest surprise in terms of his development, should be #1 next year)
Strohack (kinda has evolved into a leader on the ice, standing up for players) A defenseman you don't want to play against.
McCallum (good on faceoffs, tough to play against. He's been better with not taking senseless penalties)
2005s: Matejicek (won't be back next year but has progressed into a very good defenseman)
Faulkner (one of the most underrated players on the team - makes a difference on every shift.
Page ( has gotten better every year but not exponentially)

As for the OHL Priority Draft, we'll pick in top four so are there certain 2009 players we should prioritize?
A lot of good points in here. Changes definitely need to be made in off season and maybe moving Bowen, Taylor and Addy could bring back some needed help on the back end. With Matejick leaving, Cameron and Gowan are the only ones left back there that can actually play at this level. Assuming they take a forward with their first few picks help should be brought in via trade as the depth chart is not looking great. Two games left. Go Pete’s

Ula is excellent back there and will only get better. I think what they need is skill up front. Lots of it. Realistically I think they could use 5 new forwards for the top 2 lines to join Fitzgerald. There's more than enough solid hard workers for the bottom 6. They need skill. And to make sure Wilson doesn't stifle the talent and creativity of anyone who comes in.

Cameron (07)
Ula (08)
Gowan (08)
Ladds (07)

I like these 4 guys.......so young but the experience they've gained this season will pay huge dividends IMO.
Often times there are Dmen who are late bloomers; given the number of Dmen who dressed for the Petes this season and will likely be at camp next year, I'm optimistic that the back end will be OK. I wouldn't be surprised if Oke looks to add an OA Dman depending on what the market looks like.

What contract is he on that requires a cage but also allows him to play 28 games?
That’s a valid question that I’m trying to figure out too. Usually it has to do with contract status but it’s odd that he’s played 28 games and also started the season with a visor

there really isnt a hard reason why, usually its a call up that doesnt get a full time card.

insurance requires players have shields who are not on a full time card.

there are kids who are injured that play with them as well.

its not a hard rule, but if the kid is healthy he should have a shield on, 100 percent.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the D, personally. I like your idea of adding a solid OA next year to help out. The lack of scoring is what concerns me and I think it's what they need to address in the draft and offseason. There's been no indication that Young, Addy or Taylor will improve next year (you could argue that Taylor and Addy regressed this season, in fact) so I hope they'll be looking to add scoring.

Interesting, thanks for clearing that up a bit. So the 10 games rule doesn’t always apply for the shield, also comes down to full time or part time?
