Peterborough Petes 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Agreed, look how’s he turned out. He’s on fire and there’s no way he’s the same player if he were still a Pete
I’m not a big Wilson fan but I think Lardis would still be one of the top players if he were here. Let’s not forget Tucker Robertson and JR Avon turned out just fine with their whole OHL career under Wilson.

Don’t get me wrong, I think every player should know how to be defensively responsible but you got to let players play. It’s hard to get momentum or any flow/chemistry when you know your handcuffed as soon as your step on the ice. I say let them play and then make the players accountable for when they make mistakes. Players who don’t compete, or don’t back check, make them sit a period.

To me, Lardis was a situation of going from mostly third, sometimes second-line minutes to top-line time. He needed the ice time. Even having won the championship that year, in part due to that trade, I still think it was unfortunate at the time because of how much we gave up in one player.

One of my biggest criticisms of Wilson over the years has been his management of playing time for the younger players. Obviously, that's not as much of an issue later in last season forward to this season outside of goaltending. I felt the same way about Alfano, although he hasn't had quite the same pickup in his game as Lardis has.

Also Nick Lardis often played left wing with Peterborough and even though he is a left shot he contributes more offensively when he plays at right wing.

It would be wonderful to see some accountability. Also for needless penalties. Doesn't seem to be Wilson's style, however.

(Edit) PS: It wasn't Hull's style either. Coaches love to talk about accountability but then do nothing about it, it's not just Wilson.

Say what ya want about McCallum brings it every night not afraid of anyone beautiful assist last night had the entire London bench rattled as Wilson stated teams would die to have him on there team lucky we got em
100% agree. Takes a lot of flack on here. Def having an off year production wise. But are you better with or without him?

Fitzgerald leading team in points now. Parrish and Ula on PP, this team looks a lot different than it did a month ago. In the next few years Ula and Cameron will make a good blueline pairing on the PP.
Rye is a bona fide starter now and combines good positional goaltending with good mobility. Nice to see Stonehouse get the winner, the guys seem to like him.

Pretty good show for their third game in three nights
I agree and nice to see them get the two points. This team is improving and Fitzgerald gets better every game. I hate to point out a negative but in the 3rd period of a very tight game Strohak and McCallum are sitting side by side in the penalty box and Sarnia has a 5 0n 3 power play. Both of these penalties were needless and stupid putting themselves ahead of the team. What doesn't help is for the rest of the game they are getting their regular shifts. Let them sit and pout because the status quo is not working.

I was keeping an eye on your local boy, Fitzgerald, I thought his OHL ranking at 14th was so wrong, I am glad the Pete's picked him up early. He's going to be an NHL first rounder next year, he needs some work on his defensive side of the puck, he's going to be complete by his draft day

Pete’s 5pts out of a playoff spot.

North Bay 2-7-1 in last 10.
Ottawa 2-8 in last 10.
Peterborough 4-6

Crazy to say but you may actually land a playoff spot. Would be crazy to see after the horrific start.

Interested to hear your takes on whether you’d rather make the playoffs or get a top 4 pick.

I hope they go with Rye the rest of the way as the starter. No way Bowen is back next year, so get Rye all the experience you can since next season they should be a playoff team.

While I appreciate the "more games, playoff experience" side of things... Let's be fair, they're unlikely to go on a run so it's probably only 5-6 games max. With having gone as deep into the rebuild as the team did I'd rather they get the better draft pick. I'm not advocating tanking, and the team clearly doesn't seem interested in that, but I think the better pick would be the better option if it was a simple choice that had to be made.

They should have been doing this for a while. Kind of boggles the mind that other teams commentary seems to see that but the team itself doesn't. I'd like to be hopeful that him getting the back to back and not cracking means they put faith in him going forward but only time will tell on that front.
