Excellent points above and the Pete's are an iconic franchise with great fan support. Its tough for 16/17 year olds to have success in this league unless they are surrounded by strong vets otherwise it's learning and treading water for many of them-1st rounders or not. The key thing is the experience the young kids are getting should translate next year and beyond. Many nights the young kids will struggle but its all part of the process. Although I don't see much of an interest in your current vets you could get some later round picks for some of them.
Next year there should be lots of OA's available and some school bound 06's looking to play that can come in as free agents (unless many jump to NCAA-not likely for '06's) to bring in next year to support the 07/08/top '09 kid Pete's will get. Stay the course. Wilson has proven he can win. Pete's are legitimately two years away from making noise but they should be definitely better next year. If Taylor and Addy don't take the next step there will be teams willing to take them on to give them fresh starts IMO. I don't think Pete's have to worry about Cameron and Young. Fitzy is a can't miss.

Problem is if Taylor and addy don’t take the next step teams might take them on but they won’t get much in return. Those are 2 of the key building blocks they are trying to build around that will only set this rebuild back if they don’t pan out imo. Can only hope Novotny comes over next year and they also get another top Euro with likely the first overall pick

if you are going down hard, might as well go all the way. Petes will be back in a few years
I don’t disagree with that but what I am worried about is reportability for this upcoming and future OHL drafts. Assuming the Petes have a top 4 pick in the 2025 draft (they will) who’s to say Charlie Murata, Camryn Warren etc aren’t gonna say “I’m not reporting if you draft me” because of the lack of development from younger players under Wilson

I think people would accept that if they seen some progress with a lot of these players but that simply hasn’t happened yet so what’s there to look forward to next year? Sure these guys will all be a year older but they’ve yet to show any sign of improvement so far this year and the vets next year are gonna be worse than the ones they have this year. I don’t see any 05 on this team that would be worth keeping as a OA next season other then maybe Bowen

When opportunities arise, the Petes should use their extra picks on players that can help for 1.5-2.5 rather than save them for a distant addition or draft selections that will need 3 seasons before really contributing.

I mean he’s not back next year so if someone comes calling and is willing to give up a pick or picks then I don’t see why not. I agree he plays a lot obviously he has Wilson’s trust plus he’s the oldest guy back there. He’s obviously playing way too much but on a contending team he might be a nice veteran addition for a playoff run. Looking at teams who have open import spots Sudbury, Niagara, Kitchener, Saginaw
I could see Niagara being a fit but only if they overpay. Matejicek and Cameron are the only decent d men on the Pete’s. And I don’t think it would go over well with fans etc trading one of your best d men when you’re already the worst team in the CHL.

Remind me again. Why did the OHL put a draft lottery in?? It’s clear as ever these guys suck and need that first overall pick

Niagara or maybe they could convince Papineau to take him. I don’t think the fans would care any knowledgeable fan knows he isn’t back next year and the Petes need more picks. If anything the fans are more worried about who’s behind the bench right now

I really, really dislike the OHL lottery. Maybe I would not be as opposed if expanded to five teams, and teams can drop only one spot each.
I would hate to the Petes fall to four. Niagara falling to four a couple of years ago was a travesty imo. Even if unable to sign any one, they should have been entitled to the additional compensation for a defect.

Niagara could have used Chromiak or Molnar more, so I don’t see a fit for Matejicek unless both VanVliet & Scott are sold at the deadline.
