The Petes were not in a position to trade Liam Sztuska at the trade deadline last year as Zach Bowen was out gift an extended period with an injury. In regards to a potential trade for him. London always want to underpays for overages and demand a high return for theirs. I stand by my comment as I do not want to see the Petes to do anything that helps London without a decent return. Goaltenders of Liam’s caliber in the past have been traded for at minimum a 3rd and 6th and Peterborough only wanted a 3rd they might of taken a 4th.

Let’s be honest - - what difference would it have made to the Petes last year if they’d finished the season with a Jr C goalie in net?

They were God-awful with Sztuska in net so would it really matter if they’d lost every game by five goals instead of losing ever game by three goals?

Terrible asset mismanagement.

The Petes likely could have obtained a 2nd or a 3rd plus a 4th for him but that would have left them with Easton Rye as their only goaltender when Zach Bowen was out injured. They did not have enough cards to use Masen Johnston or any other goaltender they acquired as the backup. So trading him was not an option. This year there was no market for overage goaltenders this year. Missing out on 6th or
7th that London likely was offering is not a big deal.

There’s just no offence with this team they’ve scored more then 2 goals twice so far this year it’s gonna take a 50 save shutout from Bowen to get a win at this point
Wonder if they end up trying to make a big splash to help them out. Sure looks like they need it

No anyone that thinks there’s some sort of big trade coming is gonna be disappointed. Who are they gonna trade? They aren’t in position to give up high draft picks either for players
I don’t mean trading for some star 19 or 20 year old I mean using some of their picks or a younger underachieving player like Young or Addy for a guy that can help their offence up front for the next few years

I don’t see teams lining up to acquire either of those guys who have a combined 6 goals so far they haven’t shown much at all the return for them wouldn’t be worth trading them right now

I don't think so. This is the roster they've got and we just need to pray that at some point the players develop. I had thought going into this season that getting the 8th spot was possible. I don't think it is now. Hopefully they hit 10 wins.
I thought they would battle for the 8th spot as well but now I’m trying to find 10 possible wins on the schedule. The biggest issue so far is these 07’s haven’t done anything yet. Cameron,Taylor, Addy and Young have a combined 6 points and are -34 there needs to be a improvement over last year there’s no reason these guys shouldn’t be over 30 plus points each this season

Ya it’s tough they had a chance against Owen sound and Guelph last weekend but got blown out even by those 2 teams. Like I said Bowen will likely have to get a 50 save shutout for the first win and it’ll be 1-0

I think it is unrealistic to expect 17 yr olds to control the game. They need veteran help. Right now, no McCallum and three 19/20 yr olds without a goal between them. The older guys need to carry the game, with the younger guys supporting.

I’m not saying they gotta control the play but if you go look at the 2023 draft and guys who got picked in the first round about 90 percent of them are contributing points. It’s only 9 games but if there’s not some sort of improvement after 20 games there should be some concern.

The Peterborough Petes are not going to go 0-67-1-0 on the season. The Petes will get wins. They were a shot away from winning in overtime on Thursday. People are being too negative. The Petes will make the necessary changes to their lineup to improve the team if they need to.

This sums things up well. We all know the Petes are young but these '07s should be able to start driving the pace a bit more. Instead they look like they have went backwards in their development. Understandable to lose with this young of a roster, but to not even be able to generate anything whatsoever is ridiculous.

Go look at Kitchener and see who’s driving that offence it’s Romano, Lam and Reid all 07’s. In the Soo it’s Martin and Hayes. The losing we knew would happen but these young guys gotta show some growth no way Fitzgerald should be out producing them in his first season

I’m a big Oke supporter but if it’s true that Kitchener offered Romano for Beck and he instead pulled the trigger on the deal with Saginaw instead, that’s a massive fail on his part. I never was a fan of that deal but I was hoping Young would prove me wrong.

I put some of the blame on their former teams. It did not help their development last season when the teams drafted them sat them on the bench or sitting in the stands. I am confident Rob Wilson will be able to development them.

I don’t think that likely happened or Peterborough was being disadvantaged in the deal if he was offered. I think the Petes might have either asked for him in return for Beck but Kitchener was not prepared to trade him or the Rangers wanted draft picks in addition to Beck sent to them in return for Romano.

Beck wanted to go to Kitchener and from everything I heard, the Rangers were not prepared to offer Romano, so the Petes had to persuade Beck to accept somewhere else, ending up reducing the return. I of course may be wrong but that is what I recall lol

What are the examples of Wilson developing high end offensive skill? The core offensive players of the OHL Championship were almost all imported (Beck, Othmann, Hayes, Stillman, Lockhart, White). Even the team before that the best players were Sproule, Carroll, etc...

He didn't know what the hell to do with Lardis. Avon developed well. So did Tucker Robertson. McCallum is TBD but should keep improving. JVV hasn't really panned out. Mason McTavish was too good to fail. He inherited already developed Nick Robertson, SDA, Kirk, Gogolev etc...

I'm sure he'll develop the next round of D and Gowan and Ula have great foundations to work on but I don't see Wilson as a guy who is great at getting the best offense out of young players. Sucking the fun out of their game and jamming them into his system, sure.

I thought someone said the Petes left better offers on the table because Beck wanted to go to Saginaw. I could be wrong. Maybe OHL4Life can chime in and correct me.

As you said he developed Tucker Robertson and JR Avon. Liam Kirk first season in the OHL the season Rob Wilson became the coach and he developed him. He made Seymour Der-Arguchintsev and Max Grondin into better players and Nick Robertson was only 17 when he took over the Petes so he was not fully developed as a player when Rob took over. Also we cannot forget that he turned Emmett Sproule and Connor Lockhart into better players after they had underachieved in Erie. Nick Lardis was only in his second season when he was traded so we do not know what he could have achieved in Peterborough in his 18 and 19 year old seasons. The biggest issue for him in his second season was that he mostly played left wing earlier in the season and is better on right wing. When he was moved to right wing he started scoring goals.

I said it when the deal happened they didn’t get enough picks back in return. I know it was for half a season but still Barlow brought back more picks and players and I’d argue Beck is a better all around player
