I am a life long Petes fan -season ticket holder my entire life -I was that baby being passed around in the stands and now I am a grown adult.

I bleed maroon and white but it is hard to cheer against Lockhart

I don’t foresee too many more wins for the Petes the rest of the season. They’ll be battling Barrie for 8th spot

lottery pick to kickstart this rebuild and get it right isn’t the worst thing
Should be aiming for that at this point. Once Beck and Mayer and whoever else is traded this team isn’t gonna score much and won’t be able to keep the puck out of the net wins will be hard to come by

McCallum has been given everything this year. He has played with top guys all year. Part of me thinks this is because the Petes are setting him up as trade bait. Perhaps to up his value as a package deal to Sudbury where his brother plays. Think of this. Mayer and McCallum to Sudbury for a player and the picks they desperately need next year. McCallum has been playing on a line recently that McCue saw so much success earlier in the season. I believe if Page was given the same opportunity we’d be talking about him the same way. I hope for the Petes sake the players who haven’t been given the opportunity to play with top guys on a consistent basis will be able to perform well without the help of over agers etc like some have been given. I also wonder how many players who haven’t been given opportunities are asking for trades this year. McCallum has taken a lot of stupid penalties consistently all year almost every game. And he’s now suspended from a dirty hit in Guelph and then fighting Guelphs youngest player. Wilson has never given opportunities to players getting penalties like this in the past. He even had Stillman on 3rd line because of his lack of discipline. That’s why I feel McCallum is trade bait. I agree with you Partridge is looking more comfortable and I hope with more ice time Faulkner can do what he did in jr.B level. The Petes will be the underdogs every game this year. I hope they are up for the challenge.
I can't see McCallum getting traded....he has decent offensive skills and plays with grit despite his size. I expect him to be a leader on this team in a couple of seasons. He has crossed the line a number of times this season but I expect he will learn from these mistakes. He is the highest drafted 06 in the Petes lineup after trading away Van Volsen last year.

Petes can't afford to trade away young players. They need to add young players, not delete them, or they will have trouble filling a roster next year with all their graduates.

reminds me of kingston from last year. trading a few top players (wright, arcuri, hache) and then sucking the second half of the season.

you should get 2nd, 3rd+ for Mayer. Owen Beck an 07 or quality 06 and 2nds and 2 3rds at least. Konnor Smith prob a 2nd and a 3rd or 2nd and a 4th.

All in all thats likely 4 2nds, 4 3rds, an 07 and likely a roster filler player or two in return which would be a huge win for you guys in the future

As per the 'Notes' section in the Examiner: "The Petes will be without goalie Zach Bowen for three-to-six weeks after he had an arthroscopic procedure on his knee on Friday. Petes head coach Rob Wilson said Bowen's knee had been bothering him for a while and the decision was made to have his knee cleaned up. He'll likely return in mid- to late-January."

With Bowen out for this period of time, this should give Easton Rye a chunk of starts and at the very least a chance to split the net Sztuska, who has unfortunately been trending the wrong way.

Sucks for Bowen to be hurt but definitely good opportunity to see what they have in Rye because they’ll need someone else to pair with Bowen

Some thoughts on the first half of the season.
Prior to the start of the season I believe that most of us would not have been surprised if we heard that the Petes would be fighting for a playoff spot at the Christmas break.
The Petes over acheived early, won a lot of one goal games and had superb goaltending.
Now reality has set in and they are probably where they should be in the standings.
They now have good goaltending, not superb which creates a problem coming up to the trade deadline. The consensus seemed to be that Beck would be traded as well as Sztuska and likely one defenceman. With the injury to Bowen this likely eliminates the potential of a Sztuska trade.
The Petes goaltending as previously mentioned has been good, the defence adequate and the forward group after taking away say the top four is lacking.
McCallum is playing well has a lot of potential but needs to settle down and play the game. He has zero value sitting in the box or being suspended.
What the team looks like after the trade deadline will be interesting.
Beck wil be missed but for the good of the Petes going forward a trade is a must.

I think the litmus test for Peterborough has resulted in a hell of a lot of confidence in the coaching staff. The structure in place allows even a poorer team to succeed. I think that says a lot about the coaching staff. That is something the Petes will be able to carry forward in a positive way.

I don‘t think the Petes will make the playoffs. That is likely a good thing. Getting a lottery pick is a good thing. Snagging a player in the top 4 should be exciting. Imagine the excitement if they get the 1st pick? That will really help the rebuild.

Next year is going to suck hard but it is necessary. If they can navigate the remainder of this season plus next season, they will come out the other side in good shape. Another good draft pick next year will help. Snagging enough draft picks in this draft and the following draft will be the key. Get the bodies in the system.

Adam Valentini would look good in maroon!

It all depends on what the Petes get in the trades for them. I think there will be some surprise returns on some of the trades that teams rebuilding teams make. I am predicting that there will be players moved in some these deals that some fans think teams their teams would not trade in trades for big names. If Peterborough can get players in return that are ready to contribute they may be able to be like Hamilton was after the deadline last year.

Don’t get carried away. Hamilton had a seriously large stockpile of OA’s with pretty big value.

Costantini, Diaco, (Humphrey, Winterton - not OA’s), Hayes, White, and Morrison.

They acquired Okitundou and Bujold late. They also got a little fortunate with Panwar who outplayed expectations.

Petes have already traded Simpson and Lockhart and as decent as Bowen is, they already had a goalie ready. That leaves them with Beck and Mayer. The sheer volume of assets Hamilton turned their guys into was astounding in a sellers market. It isn’t realistic for the Petes to be as fortunate. Setting that bar is not very realistic.

There were some rare trades last year. It was 20 years between top 5 picked 16 yr olds being traded. The return Hamilton got for two OAs was an anomaly, I think.
The Petes could come close to equaling the total return of Hamilton if they are all-in sellers though, because their 19 yr olds hold more value and Mayer will be valued like Xhekaj if Punnet is unavailable. McCoy just might be the best RD available.

Based on how some teams fans talk about Owen Beck on here… I’d be surprised if the Petes don’t have to add draft picks to him just to get another team to take him.

it’s actually quite comical listening to some of the takes. Beck is one of the premier forwards in this league. end of story
Agreed. But you are only having him 3-4 months. Definitely the best player available with tons of value but not getting the extra year will hurt the return. IMHO

Yes but does a team NEED Beck? Why not just go bargain bin shopping for a winger instead? Surely that will net a team the same desired effect? (Heavy sarcasm).
if you’re not bargain bin shopping in a go for it year then i don’t know what you’re doing!!

Simple question. Which trade would you prefer IF you only had these two choices?

Trade #1
To Saginaw - Owen Beck
To Peterborough - Aiden Young + two 2nds + two 3rds

Trade #2
To Saginaw - Cedric Guindon
To Owen Sound - Two 2nds + three 3rds

That is the type of decision teams need to make. Some will need Beck enough to make Trade #1. Some won’t need to make that type of trade. Adding a guy like Guindon isn’t considered bargain bin shopping so don’t be childish.

NOTE: I don’t know if OS will be a seller but if they were, a guy like Guindon would be a great option that wouldn’t cost an ‘07. He (or others like him) would cost something closer to Harrison, Zhilkin, Dann, or Arcuri last year.
