Oh noooooo!

This is the team I was least excited to face -they have owned us this season. The one and only game we won , Sudbury had 2 players missing to suspensions.

This team is what we used to be (super tough, hard hitting and impossible to play against) before we sacrificed grit for skill.

I have subconsciously started the rebuild -what do you think we could get for Simpson at the trade deadline ?
Or Beck ?
Or Robertson ?
Don't worry about that right now! its playoff time, new season

So in the east it's . Ottawa vs Oshawa . NB vs missy. Barrie vs Hamilton Pete's vs wolves .

In the west playoffs.

Windsor vs Kitchener. London vs Owen sound. Sarnia vs Guelph . Flint vs Saginaw.

Thoughts
I think the closest series will be flint Saginaw and then Windsor Kitchener. Every series in the east should be over in 4 or 5 games

Since season is over, and there are people starting to talk about changing coaches....in 25 yrs here are your coaching winning percentages. Wilsons has had two years of the four of rebuild, and made playoffs. Last year they picked you guys to finish out of playoffs. Regardless how you feel about the success of this year, be careful what you wish for. Its been a long 25 years. Lets see how they do in playoffs.

How many of those guys were ex petes? Time to get someone in who hasn’t been associated with the team in the past

I am curious about that ?

I always thought ex-Petes would make the best team coaches etc, They would understand the “rich tradition” and have a deeper pride in the team having worn the maroon and white themselves.

Do you think a non-Pete would be better ?

I know Dick Todd never played for the Petes and he is our winningest coach.

Who did you have in mind ?

As we head into the playoffs, I figured I would share the 2022-2023 attendance numbers that I have tracked.
Season average was 3221.97 (3222) which was the Petes highest average attendance since the 2006-2007 season which was a 3306 average. I tracked game by game as well as the day of the week and monthly averages shown below.
The season high was 3912 on Saturday February 4th, 2023 against the Oshawa Generals for Pink in the Rink.

Dick Todd may be an exception. He was with the organization as a trainer for years before becoming coach.

I like the Sudbury matchup. Went 1-1-0 against them in 2023 but Simpson is way better then there goalies so huge advantage there.

I went to Millbrook in (September I think) ?) and watched the pre-season game with Sudbury and to my surprise, we were outplayed and beaten. It was only pre-season but DAMN that was disappointing. But fast forward 8 months and this playoff series will be hard-fought any way you look at it.

Hopefully we are at full-strength including Avon and Zanetti, two very important pieces. And Simpson and the D will need to be TOIT! and the scoring will follow (for us that is).

Dick Todd was the teams trainer for several years before he became their Head Coach so he had roots with the team before he took over behind the bench. Dick was arguably the best Head Coach in the OHL in his era and the majority of the teams success in the last forty years came with him as Head Coach. In the years between his first and second stints as coach the Petes won six playoff series in ten seasons. Five (in three seasons) were under Dave MacQueen who was not a former Pete (he was a Petes draft pick). In his final season they won the OHL Championship. The other playoff series they won was when former Pete Brian Drumm was their Head Coach. They won six playoff series and an OHL Championship in the two seasons that Dick Todd returned to coached the team. Since then they won three playoff series when former Pete Jody Hull was head coach. They have not won a playoff series with former Pete Rob Wilson as head coach but likely would have won a least two series in 2020 and could have won the OHL Championship if Covid had not forced the cancellation of remainder of the season and the playoffs. They have not won a playoff series under a Head Coach who was not a former Pete since Dave MacQueen.

In the last forty years the Petes have had more success when they had a Head Coach who had ties to the team before they became coach whether they are a former Petes player or had another role like Dick Todd had with the team.

Dick Todd was awesome. As lifetime Wolves fan I have to tell the story of bantering back and forth one night with Dick when he was a trainer. We brought up his premature hair loss and the reflection off his head. In the 3rd period he came out wearing a ball cap. Classic!

Last time we played the Petes was when Todd was there in the 90's in a 7 game homer series. Went down on a fan bus for game 7. Pre renovations I would think. Haven't been there since the Scarbossa days. Lost in 7. Among the notables for the Petes were none other than Chris Pronger, Mike Harding and Jason Dawe to name a few.
IL be there Friday staying near the PMC. Would anyone be so kind as to tell me a good atmosphere to grab a bite to eat and a few pints afterwards. Cheers.

Most places downtown on a Friday night but Riley's, The Junction, The Social, One Eighty Hunter are some top bar/ pub/ club style places. Many others but depends what you're looking for

Thanks a lot for the info. I’m staying at the Best Western not far far from the rink. Would these places be far? According to the hotel there are some restaurant/pubs nearby. I generally like a bit of a bar atmosphere. Thanks again.

Sounds good. Il have been up since before six so I doubt Il want to bark at the moon. I’m in section 5 too. Row G I guess. Hope it’s a good seat. What about the distance..say it’s a kilometre from the rink. Good walk? Quick cab ride I guess? Thanks again.

Good walk….
If wolves win clicking ur heels together, skipping and hollering back to the Quality Inn
If Petes win, a long enough walk to stomp ur feet and get all of ur cursing done before you arrive back at the Quality Inn
Get the ribs at one eyed jacks!

Not a bad little walk, assuming the weather is nice. Probably 15 minutes tops. One thing I'll add is cross to the north side of Lansdowne (the side your hotel and One Eyed Jacks is on) when you come out of the arena at the lights (Lock/Lansdowne). There's only one other set of lights between the Mem Center and the Best Western and it can be a bit tricky/dangerous crossing in the dark with lots of traffic!
