From the Soo's perspective, Martin is probably their most valuable young player, but I am not sure they would be willing to move him. Virgilio would be next, probably followed by Brown, but there is a big gap between #2 and #3.

I am not sure the Soo would win any bid for Beck that didn't include at least Virgilio. Even then, it might not be enough if other teams are willing to commit their 2007 born first rounder.

I agree here. I think something like Brown AND Virgilio makes way more sense.

Christopher Brown (2006 born, 1st round pick 2022 draft)
Matthew Virgilio (2006 born, 4th round pick 2022 draft, was going NCAA but committed to the Soo)
2024 2nd round pick
2024 2nd round pick FLNT
2025 3rd round pick SAG
2026 3rd round pick KGN
2024 4th round pick NB

@HockeyPops

I will say the advantage here is that both players are proven OHL players, established over a season, and both have a bright future in the league, that can contribute to a rebuilding team, big time.

Assuming Owen Beck is sent back to the OHL, which many believe is highly likely, here is a way too early top 6 potential destinations for Owen Beck if he was to be traded at the 2024 OHL trade deadline. These deals try to take into account past rental deals and are purely speculative with some being more reasonable or more doable than others. These deals assume it is simply just Owen Beck being dealt, although it is of course likely someone like Konnor Smith or Donovan McCoy (or other veteran players) could be included in a deal with Beck as well.

London?

Sounds like a deal to me. Would be huge for the Petes' rebuild and gives the SOO top centre. Could even explore the possibility of the deal being Owen Beck + Konnor Smith/Donovan McCoy. Don't know how much that changes the deal or if it's worthwhile for Peterborough keep players together or separate them

Leaves ssm with a few more picks in cupboard too.

I'm not alluding to anything here but there is a obvious relationship between Kyle Raftis & Peterborough.

Let's see how the start of the season goes :)

Enjoy everyone!!

Based off the draft pick database, London does fulfill the 2 2nds, 2 3rds portion of the deal but where the Knights lack is an appealing '07/'06 player not named Sam Dickinson or Henry Brzustewicz.

This same challenge is there when you look at Saginaw.

They have Aiden Young but from there, what? They can't use their 2022 1st or 2nd rounders as bait as they need them.

They have the draft picks covered but what else?

On my initial release I had Aiden Young and F Liam Storch and you definitely could argue Young is the only 'elite' piece going back. Could possibly add in D Josh Glavin as well however I would rather Storch. To me the Greyhounds and Frontenacs deals are the best simply because of Matthew Virgilio and Tyler Hopkins.

O’Reilly or Nicholl are both solid 06s
how do you know, they didnt play last year. any 06 that played full time in the ohl will have more value to everyone other then niagara, niagara will give 5 2nds for either.

I wouldn't offer virgilio. Defence will be our only saving grace next year if we go all in this year lol.

Brown and Evans maybe. Or Brown and kostov.
I'd really like to keep the two-right shot d. Or Brown and picks.

If we could get a 3rd for toms, I'd add that to what hfp posted, but I'd switch virgilio and Evans.

I'd be shocked if this deal got done without Virgilio. Teams do not make a habit of trading away the big fish for scraps. I am sure London would be in there like a dirty shirt, and their scraps are always valued more highly than ours.

I think Virgilio is our only chance to get Owen Beck, and even that might not be enough bait.

You can't just move unproven pieces around for the sake of it. Our value on a player isn't the same across the league and no one knows Evans like Soo fans do. I've said since day 1 that SSM will need to move players with whom fans have built a relationship this year. I just don't see any value in Evans currently in comparison to Virgilio. You'd be looking at losing a bidding war doing something like that. Virgilio doesn't take away from our D-core. We have Solomon waiting to replace his spot next year anyway.

I like the idea of bringing in Konnor Smith from Peterborough as well... an 18-year-old to fill a gap.

agree 100%.

The thing that we'd hope catches Okes' eyes is that Virgilio as a 16-year-old D-man put up 15 points on a very bad Soo Greyhounds team lol. Same with Brown, 14 points as a rookie on a team that missed playoffs.

Go look at Storch or Glavin's numbers from Saginaw.... would make me lick my chops way more to have Virgilio and Brown in the mix.

Owen Beck is going to be a deadline deal anyway. The first half of this season will be hugely informing on what the final deal for Owen Beck looks like and how all these young players are valued. We just need to hope our young players have a good first half and put us in the conversation.

It really depends on the player going to the Petes that will determine the # of picks.
Hopkins & 2nd?
Martin.
See DelMastro for comparison. Before last season, one top 5 picked 16 yr old was traded at the January window over 20 years.
