Not surprised by the outcome in London yesterday....the 1 goal lead in the first was nice but I figured they would need at least a 2 goal lead and a rattled rookie goalie to beat a Knight's team playing at home in a must win game. London is a younger team but a strong team. It's the OHL playoffs where the only guarantee is that the momentum is going to shift, a lot!
So much of the positive energy that players get at this point of the season comes from bounce back situations. The bounce back is the strongest when the preceding loss is worse. It's like the bounce of a lacrosse ball; when it falls from a higher point it will bounce back stronger. The Petes have already experienced this.
- Game 5 in Ottawa with a 3 goal lead heading into the 3rd, give up 4 goals and lose 5-4 in a series clinching game.
The bounce back - Game 6 they outshoot the 67s in the 1st and 2nd period back at the PMC building up a 4-1 lead.......
- Game 5 in North Bay, outshot 39-14 in the first two periods, trailing 6-2, OUCH
The bounce back - Game 6 they outshoot Battalion 44-29 including 31-18 in the first 2 periods back at the PMC........
- Game 5 in London, outshot 16-8 in the first period and despite playing an OHL championship clinching game against a rookie goalie, they come up flat. IMO they played less physical and less inspired - they wanted to win but were hoping it would happen the easy way.
The bounce back - Game 6 back at the PMC, facing adversity. Owen Beck? and an underdog if it goes to game 7 in London. They need to use the crowd, the sting of losing last game and the adversity to fire them up with a fast start.
I hope the Game 6 trend continues for the Maroon and White.
