I don't expect Holland to ever be a #1 centerman ... certainly it could happen, as a 22 year old can obviously still develop. Elite prospects can show their skills and abilities close to their draft, but those outside the top 5 probably are going to require some development time.

If you could put Holland into the #2 spot, and land a #1 center in a trade the 2nd. rounder used to land Holland could be considered a steal.

Now if you have your #2 spot filled, and several candidates for the #3 spot, anything used (outside of Kessel) to fill that #1 spot is an easy decision. I'm talking about a young #1 centerman, around Kessel's age with a decade of hockey left in him, not a Joe Thornton coming available via UFA, which then is just a money deal.

A centerman you can use in any situation, and team leader and respected individual. Someone the players can look to when times get tough. Someone the coach can turn to without hesitation. A complete, character player.

Ok so you want to take Holland and discard Kadri within the stretch of 2 weeks since the Leafs traded for Holland...
Before you talk about Holland being a #1 or #2 center, remember something. Anaheim is a very strong drafting and developing team. They traded Holland to the Leafs for basically warm bodies. Hollands career numbers are 7 pts in 29 games.... what am I missing here?
Do you know something that Bob Murray and the Ducks didnt know?

I think what you are missing is a few key words in what I wrote.

You do understand what an "If statement" is correct?

I should note that I chose Kadri in a fantasy pool over several of his peers. I expect him to get his points.

Yes. Also what team's fans don't fall in love with their best players, it's pretty normal.

If Holland looks like he'll pan out then we should try to dump Bozo the Clown.

Were you old enough to remember Wendel Clark? He was traded for a pretty good player that we came close to winning a cup in his time.

It's so funny how you like to change the meaning of a discussion to it's simplist terms. No one said this that I have read here. Maybe I gave you too much credit as a poster a month ago.

Who do you suggest we will get by trading Kadri? Give us a list of names we will get that are not over 25, has salary cap less than 2.9 mil/year and scores more points than Kadri does. We are not fools and we can't be fooled by foolish thoughts.

They'll probably be satisfied with a warm body not named Kadri.

I'm old enough to remember a converted defenseman winning the Cup with the Leafs.

:p:

Of course having a true two-way centerman on top of that didn't hurt! Kind of taints what you consider a good centerman though doesn't it?

Tiny sample size but I like the way he handles the puck, and he's a good skater. Were I the coach of the Leafs I'd leave him on the first line and bring Bozak back from injury on the 3rd until Holland stumbles, or Bozak earns his way back to the first line.

He did say he would move bozak if it improves team but i have a hunch that if he is traded, he would rip the deal to shreds

Who could we possibly get for Bozak? His only value is to us, he's not worth much on the market. His value is on this team, right now.

What does Peter lack to become a #1 center?

Having read up on him and from the limited viewing the only knock on him so far seems to be consistency, which is not unheard of players his age.

He seems to have a good work ethic and a good head on his shoulders to go along with his skillset.

I really like this trade in terms of risk/reward potential and what we gave up.
Might be a difference make for us down the road if all goes well.

It's one of the reasons why I don't see Kessel being a great fit with Kadri. Much like how Ovechkin needs someone like Backstrom to cover him defensively, Kessel needs someone to give him space consistently. Otherwise Kessel looks very lacklustre. He needs someone like Wendel Clark.

On the other hand, Kadri is sort of a, less-skilled, offensive variant of Doug Gilmour. He doesn't need to be given an elite perimeter forward, but some big finishers. I don't think we want him playing a wear and tear game either, because that just doesn't make any sense. Giroux, who is often compared to him, looked much better big bodies ( despite not being PWF) like Voracek and Jagr. Give him linemates that are difficult to take off the puck, and we're looking at a point-per-game centre.

For one, a true #1 Center wouldn't have screwed up that redirect into the net. You would think he might have more finish at this level... maybe it will come.

Number ones screw that up on occasion. Give him 20 games play the regulars and he can report next year for camp.

Looked absolutely awful tonight. Couldn't make a single tape to tape pass and fumbled the puck every time

Pretty sure he was hooked/slashed in the hand area as well which can obviously throw your aim off. Not positive though, just what I remember without going to look at a replay.

Only played 5 mins today.... either let him play on the top line in the AHL or give him sheltered third line role with at least 10 mins a game. But giving him 5 mins is unfair.
