You guys are going to want to run Hynes out of town before the end of the year. I hated the hire when the Preds picked him up, and it turned out to be two years of boring frustrating hockey. He is also terrible at developing young talent. My condolences.

I have no real opinion on Hynes, but I have to say: "failing to develop young prospects" must be up there with goalie under-performance on the list of things that coaches take the heat for that is probably mostly not their fault.

Just about every time a coach is fired the threads are filled with the fanbase lamenting what he did to such-and-such a prospect. I get that the coach controls what opportunities a young player gets, but a hell of a lot of this comes off as scapegoating. Given the choice between admitting that that prospect probably wasn't ever as good as you thought/hoped/argued extensively about, or just blaming it on the guy that got fired, the latter is almost always going to win out.

Anyway, Rossi and Faber shouldn't be in any danger of being demoted when they're already outperforming their competition, so I dunno how much damage Hynes could even do there. Boldy's been in the league longer and has been underperforming, so some kind of demotion is probably warranted but unlikely to do any "damage".

(I guess this is just a long winded way to say: what @Circulartheory said)

Next season's a whole different ballgame and I wouldn't count on Hynes being extended - I assume that'll depend on how the team does, which is funny because there's probably not a lot that he can do about that. The change is a reactionary move and I doubt anyone's thinking beyond the end of the season right now.

I wish we had gone for a Minnesotan for one of these coach positions to be honest, I know that “one of us” attitude isn’t always helpful, but there is a lot of good coaching talent in this state that we never even attempt to tap into, fresh blood sure would have been nice, though maybe something like that can still happen this off season.

I guess you missed the announcement that Guerin has given Hynes a 4 year extension at 2M per year. Said he needed to lock down a great, gritty coach like him to give the room confidence going forward, and that if he didn't do it then some other team would.

Darby has that covered. I'm all for getting the best coach available, and would rather that we get someone who has been around, including Europe, and seen all sorts of different ways to play and coach hockey. whether they are Minnesotan or not is totally immaterial, to me. Out best coach was from small town Quebec, and spoke broken English.

Darby being where he is still confuses the hell out of me. Having worked with him in the past, I don’t consider him among the best this state has to offer. Lots of good mind you, but he’s not exactly the brightest mind where he should have been untouchable through four regime changes.

There is always a gopher like that on a coaching staff. Trust me, he is not determining who plays where, and is not in charge of strategy. He will be a low paid guy who fetches pucks, feed players passes during drills, sets up the pylons, doesn't mouth off to the press, tells the new arrivals where to get their cars fixed, places to eat, etc. You need guys like that....not a big deal.

We have a state full of people capable of doing those things is my point, and some might have some different insight to provide as well. Minimizing the role of an assistant coach to “well that’s just Darby the gopher” is the country club attitude many here like to complain about.

Those people are not hired for their insight. Darby will not be getting a big paycheck... certainly will not enough to considered "country club". More like "Muni golf course".

If you want him fired, fine, Just don't expect it to make any difference.

Darby is the Bill Murray of our Caddyshack. You just don't let that kind of gopher skillset go.

Good lord...who's this idiot? Won't go well...

Guess practices aren't all optional anymore.
Yes John, the team doesn't think it needs to practice, because Dean didn't believe in practice.
That’s Mike Yeo from years ago
Kinda needed now though... no?
lol...looks like I need glasses. But happy I wasn't watching Hynes.
The guys need a kick in the butt after Deano's "I don't care about practice" method for a while.
