To pay a goalie that much for that long is quite the risk and that cap structure there is going to be very ugly. I get he wants his pay day, he should get his value, but if he's also wanting to win a Cup, if 11M isn't enough, then whatever more he wants doesn't really work with also wanting a cup.

If total money is what he’s after than the 8th year, only the Rangers can offer, makes a big difference. If the current number is 88 million then when he’s a UFA any acquiring club would need to hit 90 for the increased total. That’s an AAV of just shy of 13. Definitely not going to happen.

If there are less elite goalies than the truly elite goalies that do exist are more in-demand.

If a team has a very good defense, they can win the cup with a not so good goalie. Vegas for example did it. Offensive teams and those organization who are still trying to figure out how to become successful, a top goalie is important. When Panthers signed Bob, they didn't know how to win and they didn't have a core in place to make it happen but that huge/too expensive contract gave them credibility. Of course, Bob hasn't always played on the Vezina level but that is another thing.

A contract likes Saros' $7.5m AAV would be better for an organization like NYR that has a good roster. I understand, however, why Shesterkin wants to get paid. His current 4 year deal doesn't pay what he deserves and he will be 30 yo. next year. Hence, it's now or never to get that big "retirement contract".

Bobrovsky's 10 mil would be 11.35 if we compared 2019 and 2025 salary caps. Maybe Igor signs for $11.5m or even $11.25m AAV. Somehow I can't imagine seeing them offering him $12m. Otherwise some other players need to settle for earning a sweatsuit set and few rolls of insulating tape.

What club will sign any UFA goalie to a seven year term at over 13 mil AAV?
11 x 8 is an incredibly good offer when considering what the AAV becomes if it’s spread over seven years. Shisterkin is getting bad advice from his agent if he’s turning down 88 million.

It's really as simple as "What teams are up and coming and have their core players locked or on ELCs?" Because those teams can absorb the cap hit for a few years while the cap inflates.

That's essentially Anaheim/Buffalo/Columbus/Detroit/Montreal/Ottawa/Utah.

We don't know if they're far apart on money, if the money is close and he's not budging, or if the trade protection didn't meet his request through-out the right years for the way Drury was structuring his contract. After the Trouba situation, maybe Drury tried to was reluctant to give a clause that lasted through-out most of the contract. Or maybe the translator is bad at math...
