LMAO! When did I change the discussion? Hellebuyck, perennial Vezina contender. Aiden Hill wins Cup, narrative is you just need a goaltender to get hot, Hellebuyck Signs for $8.5m. Bob wins Cup, prices go up and a very good tandem goaltender in Swayman is suddenly worth only $250k less/year.

Discussion from my side has never changed. Are you trying to change the discussion because you are wrong? Possibly have no idea what you are talking about?
 
Bobrovsky wasn't even particularly good when he won the cup, and this year he's started below .900.

People are really bad at evaluating goalies if they only look at cup winners.

But again...Who are the rangers bidding against? Name the teams in the summer of 2025 that both need a goalie and could afford 11M+/year for Igor....And also teams that he would actually take the same amount of money to leave New York - Both a top 5 destination for most players and his current home?

I'll put $100 saying that Igor stays with the rangers he gets less than 12M/year.

Rangers are also the only team that can offer that 8th year.

So even a 12.5 million 7 year deal is a little less total cash then Rangers offer.

You certainly named a team with a good amount of cap space, but doesn the Blue Jackets have an internal budget? Regardless zero chance Igor decides to leave NY to go there.

Bingo. Great point. Igor might be the rangers MVP and a pending UFA, but when you take all factors into account they have more negotiating power then the average fan thinks.

Honestly, I don't know. It was just the first team that came to mind with cap space and a need.
 
If he wants just the highest cap hit on the Rangers to flex 6x11.75 seems like a good enough deal for both.

Good goalies with undisputed career 1A pedigree have always been well compensated since the salary cap - Luongo, Lundqvist, Price, Vasi, Kipper, Nabokov, Bryzgalov, Bob, Rask, you name it.

But think it through. You need a team that fits all these characteristics...

  1. Will have at least 12M in cap space in summer of 2025
  2. A need at goalie
  3. A city/team that Igor would go to

You should run every team through those filters above and see how many you come up with. It won't be more than 5 for sure and why the rangers hold more power than the public thinks (and especially if Igor doesn't want to leave NY at all).

Florida or Carolina could easily make room and have the cap structure moving forward.

It only takes one additional team to make a bidding war, and I guarantee you if the team is interested they'll like Shesterkin's agent know. Ultimately, it comes down to if any teams are willing to meet Igor's asking price and if there's mutual interest between the two parties.

Carolina isn’t getting into a bidding war to pay a goalie +11m, that goes against their stated team building philosophy and past actions.

Not sure how Florida “easily makes room” either since they would have to move Bobrovsky.

But yes, his agent really only needs one other team to say yes to 12m (or whatever the alleged ask is).

I assume he’ll stay a Ranger in the end.

I assume he'll stay a Ranger in the end as well, and those were just examples. My point was that if Florida (or another contender) wants Shesterkin bad enough they'd find a way to make room.

Depends who you ask. Dylan Garand hasn't taken the next step if you ask me. He was projected to be our next potential starter. If you ask some other NYR fans, you may hear Garand hasn't gotten a shot yet, but I think any goalie who can't pull away from a split with Louis Domingue has not impressed the organization. Beyond that, not impressive. We have Ollas and Boyko who aren't even close to being ready which is probably why you're asking.

Larry Brooks said despite the internet troll post, Shesterkin is going to get more than the 11.5
So I don't know if Larry is just talking based on what he thinks or if Shesterkin turned down the 11.5 (if it was even offered)
 
I’ve looked at my crystal ball and he’s going to stay with the Rangers. There will be some haggling over money and if the Rangers will pay 50% of his mom’s Manhattan apartment but in the end Igor isn’t going anywhere. As anyone seen my Ouija board?
 
5 losses in a row now and only 8 wins on the season. I’m a massive massive fan of him and who really knows what’s going on contract negotiation wise but if a massive deal was offered to him earlier maybe he should have taken it??.. risky game of chicken to play sometimes!!!

NYR just seems like they are lost this season and obviously alot of rumors floating around with certain players being traded.. I will be very curious what ends up happening in New York this season if they can’t get it going
