The NHL regular season ends at the end of the coming week, how fast do you guys think we will get an decision? Will the NHL drag this out? or will the decision be made quickly?
My guess: it will be announced in that day or two between the end of the regular season and the playoffs. Gives everyone time to talk about it and it fades away before the playoffs start and then everyone's attention turns to that.

Alternate guess: the league tells everyone shut the f*** up and everything stays quiet until that gap between the end of the Finals and the draft. Which, to be honest, I'm kind of surprised the league hasn't done - or, if it has done, it hasn't REALLY gone after everyone to reinforce shut the f*** up.

A decision on the team name? I woukdn't be surprised if they waited until the draft to announce that.

I don't think they'll drop two teams in again, at the same time. They already have an issue with talent depletion. They need to let Seattle be around for at least 5 years and then they'll start pushing for Atlanta.

Wouldn’t the cause an issue with trying to balance east and west. Would be 18 west and 16 east. I guess they can just expand to Atlanta and another east coast city.
Yeah...Bettman has gone on record and said that any "lopsided" looking divisions/conferences aren't an issue. They can work around it a smidge by moving Columbus or Nashville back to the east for a few seasons

Columbus was moved to the East as part of Detroit's agreement to switch conferemces much like why Toronto is in the Atlantic........ folks forget that Michigan is Eastern time

Utah history is full of gunslingers and bandits. (And Mormons back then were involved in a lot of violence and massacres, far from being the goody-two-shoes of today, though I'm sure Mormon references will be avoided in the team name.)

I do think Bandits, Outlaws, Marauders, names like that all fit the state history well.

I'd like to do something with bees but Bees, Sting, Swarm, Honey, they all sound silly or like a minor league team. Maybe I'd come around on Swarm.

The exact same idea was floated when it was thought the Coyotes were going back to Winnipeg, too.

I've suggested the idea every time the Coyotes have gone through relocation rumors. I posted it on old websites when Balsillie tried to snag them back in like 2008.

Using Phoenix as the team name just makes too much sense to pass up the opportunity. And it sounds just so, so cool.

do the players have a say? Or is their contract binding of expansion?

If I were brought up through the Arizona org I would want to stay close to the state
No, the players don't have a say. The contract is with the franchise, whatever it's named and wherever it plays. The franchise moves, the players go with it. The franchise changes names, the players stay contracted with the franchise in its new name.

Players go with the team which holds their rights. For the players, ever since the coyotes went to a year to year lease with Glendale Arena, the future of the team in AZ became a legit question mark. That's the way its been for the past 4 seasons. So, if you were at any point over the past 4 years due to be a UFA, it was ultimately your choice to stay with the organization knowing that the future in AZ was uncertain. Such as a Lawson Crouse. It's just the reality of their situation. Aside from Keller and maybe Schmaltz, I don't think anyone else would have signed their current contract before the year to year lease began.
