Killer Bees? (the beehive is an important state symbol)

That’s just the way to bring the entirety of the state of Utah fully out of the dark ages.

Brand them after Wu-Tang.

Any one want to bet Utah wins the lottery pick this year now??? Lolol

What better way to start then with the 1st overall pick coming to the new city

I don't think they'll drop two teams in again, at the same time. They already have an issue with talent depletion. They need to let Seattle be around for at least 5 years and then they'll start pushing for Atlanta.
I can't confirm, but heard on RDS that 2 expansion (brings to 36 teams) are/could be planned. Pushes are Atlanta, Houston, Arizona (who would be moved o UTAH) and Québec..... Not saying it will happen, have no source if what was said on RDS is correct or not. But that is what I heard.

you know what really does suck? The Coyotes are getting both Browns'd and Nordique'd at the same time where they lose a very young promising team to another area

bet on the Utah coyotes winning in a few more seasons. it'll happen.

My comment to move Nashville is only based on any "lopsided" amounts of Western Conference teams versus Eastern, and the most easterly team of all the Western Conference teams.
16-16...... and both Toronto and Detroit requested the next time realignment happened..... this is why there's 2 divisions per conference, not 3 both were in the same conference/division that Chicago is in

I know there is a vague "long term" plan that has been speculated by TSN and Sportsnet, for expansion, so not a surprise that RDS has talked about it. I just don't see it happening more than one team at a time. I could be wrong, and that's fine. I just think the Vegas>>>Seattle type of "separation" between expansion drafts is better than having two teams simultaneously.

Right...but I'm talking about a future scenario where, say, Arizona and Houston get teams before Atlanta and a team would need to be moved to the East to "balance" things out for a couple of years until the need to recalibrate comes about.

Also can someone explain like i am five how we got here - what a mess.

Coyotes were kicked out of their arena (lease was not renewed) by the city of Glendale because they weren’t earning enough revenue to cover facility costs, rent etc.

They had to play at Mullet Arena in a pinch, Coyotes ownership was looking for other solutions (city of Tempe shot down an arena plan IIRC).

In a last ditch effort the Coyotes decided to bid on a land auction outside of Scottsdale. But the NHL realized, that even if the Coyotes won (which the probably wouldn’t, mayor of Scottsdale wasn’t keen on using city resources to build the arena on land they wouldn’t profit much from) that Arizona would have to play at Mullet arena for another 4 years at least. That is unacceptable for a pro franchise.

Utah ownership (Smith) has been aggressive throughout this process to bring a team to Salt Lake. They will share the arena with the Jazz (infrastructure is there, it’s not perfect but better than 5,000 seat arena). NHL decides to rip the bandaid and cut their losses with Arizona and move the team to a market that they believe will capture a decent amount of potential growth.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong on any of this, this is just my understanding of the situation

Despite the deal, theres no way the NHL gets back in bed with Meruello is there? As more comes out the only conclusion is that this ownership group is a complete disaster.

What a swindling for Meruello, triples a 300M investment just to go away.

Embarrassing that the NHL even sold the team to Merulo, bush league owner. He was denied an NBA franchise in the past because the NBA board of governors and the team he was purchasing ( Atlanta Hawks) didn’t believe had sufficient funds to run the franchise in a first class manner. They were right.

This is the same league and commissioner that allowed John Spano to buy a team without looking into whether he actually had any money. Gary Bettman is an absolute joke and anybody who argues otherwise is a boot licking apologist.

I feel bad for any loyal Coyotes fans suffering only to have a promising team move. But the truth is, it should have never gotten to this point or taken this long.

If TSN articles are to believed they want to try again within 5 years if things improve. Coyotes 2.0. Really?
