Coyotes just need right ownership, that could put good competent management in place.

Some questions:

Is Ryan Smith a good owner or a not good owner?

Will the management survive or will new management be bought in?

What about the scouting staff and stuff like that, will they bring in new?

My guess just based on superficial impressions, is that regime-wise, we're likely to see a big pivot under Ryan Smith, back toward a heavy analytics-driven course. Chayka 2.0 style. But maybe he won't be that dumb. Or he'll make analytics-focused hires that aren't just con men. Or he'll just leave the current team more or less intact and evaluate from there, as they've generally seemed to get the arrow pointing back in the right direction on the ice at least. Digging out of the hole Chayka left them.

An example of how obtuse the dopes running the show have been: they never took Shane Doan’s retired number banner out of Glendale. An ex-reporter got it out and is in possession of it.

Is it going to Utah? Hang it in Mullett? I mean the Whalers left all of their banners in Hartford when they moved, but they were relocating out of state..not sure where this banner should go permanently..they've kind of been homeless for a while.

Would bet that it stays if the records are not traveling.

What happens with the banners is IMO a trivial concern. I do wonder how perceptions will change with players around the league re: the franchise, and whether guys who might have previously had Arizona on a NTC list because of what was going on there now might look at SLC and say you know what, I'd be OK there.

I'm very curious to see what comes out re: Meruelo, because at this point there's no reason to be quiet about anything he's done that was detrimental to the franchise, and I suspect bigger things than the pieces we've heard about the last few days will get reported shortly.

Like you know anything. Haha

I know. The NHL isn't interested in reliving this nightmare...a pro team in a rinky dink college arena? I mean towards the end it became really embarrassing

No other franchise was kept on life support and given this many chances. Now the plug has been pulled and there is no going back

Permanently.

My guess is after Tempe fell through, combined with the litany of other headaches Meruelo has caused, the league wants him out and has been contacting outside suitors and prospective expansion buyers about relocating the Coyotes. Ryan Smith steps in, him and the NHL not only publicly flirt with each other about how much Smith wants a team in SLC, but he's willing to pay out the nose - overpay by at least double/triple what the Coyotes are worth. Meruelo realizes the league wants him out, but knows they have no grounds to force him out legally. He has them over a barrel. So now he's conjuring up this sudden auction and plot for state land in North Phoenix and likely isn't sincere about it - nothing in his track record suggests that he is. But nonetheless, he now has leverage and adds to his leverage. Especially with an auction that is due after the league would be able to relocate them and a league that does not want this tied up in the courts. Meruelo bought the team for $300M several years ago and now stands to sell for $1B. He stands to make $700M in profit for running a team into the ground and being a cheap two-bit grifter through-and-through. And he gets right-of-first-refusal for a new franchise in AZ, rights he no doubt will be keen on flipping for a profit. So at this point, the team is all but packing its bags for SLC while Meruelo tries to play chicken for as long as possible to get a more favorable payout.

Shocking the guy that the NBA turned away because he had red flags visible from space ended up being a total grifter. But this is the same league that allowed the likes of a misogynistic fraudster to own my Leafs from prison, a literal con man who didn't have money to own your Isles, and the f***ing Yakuza to own the expansion Lightning. Clearly, due diligence is not in this league's charter.
Good. Hopefully that market works and they get a nice fresh start.

Crazy to think Shane Doan spent his first season in WPG and the team loved to Arizona and now his son played his first NHL games in ARZ and the team is moving to Utah the next year.

I don’t know how branding and those things go but interesting that they’re moving so quickly and the NHL is switching to Fanatics for the jerseys. I wonder if they can produce what will be needed for the new team or they role with the coyotes uniforms and colors until they can settle on a name,
Logo, and colors?
