Bernier, Varlamov, Mason and Neuvirth are all '88 2006 draftees. Bernier was the 1st goalie taken, Varlamov 3rd, Neuvirth 5th and Mason 7th. Varlamov has proven the most talented so far.

I don't think Mason has a lot of fans inside the organization.

Mason got such a raw deal. From everyone.

Best goalie we've had in almost two decades. Nope, no one cares. Apparently he's trash and a cancer.

I wish we had more faith in Stolarz. Did everything right. 2nd rounder in 2012, nice size, transfered and did well in juniors, 2 Memorial cups appearances, 2 yrs AHL and 7 games this year.

Didnt look out of place to me.

What if he comes in and wins the job in camp? Am i delusional?

Which explains why Hextall sign Lyon and drafted Hart, Sandstrom and Tomek.
At some point you have to develop some goalies you actually have some confidence in that can win you some big games.

Had some great seasons with us and I hope he has success in the future, but it is definitely time to move on from him.

It won't happen. I seriously doubt he's even on the opening night roster in a backup role let alone as the starter.

If we sign/trade for a #1 and Stolie outplays Neuvy, he should be the backup and Neuvy should be sent down.

it is a results oriented league. The guy is a good goaltender. But he has never won a playoff series and wants to be paid like a #1 despite playing in more than 60 starts 3 times in 10 seasons. How many of those were starts I don't know.
Is all that on him? No, but he should get some blame for this teams lack of success since he got here.

I can't wait until Mason's term and $$ come in at completely manageable numbers that we could have easily afforded and are likely similar to what we're paying to some other worse goalie. And then it will be acknowledged that he didn't price himself out; they just didn't want him.

Is Ryan Miller still good? We do not need him for 50 games maybe 40?

He's okay, not sure if he'd be willing to come back to the east coast though. But reality is you're not getting a great pick of the litter on the free agent market. You eliminate Mason this is what you got:

Petr Budaj - Age 34 60GP .915SV%
Ryan Miller - Age 36 54GP .914SV%
Brian Elliott - Age 32 49GP .910SV%
Mike Condon - Age 27 41GP .914SV%
Jonathan Bernier - Age 28 39GP .915SV%
Chad Johnson - Age 31 36GP .910SV%
Anders Nilsson - Age 27 26GP .923SV%
Keith Kincaid - Age 27 26GP .917SV%
Curtis McElhinney - Age 34 21GP .916SV%
Darcy Kuemper - Age 27 18GP .902SV%
JF Berube - Age 25 14GP .899SV%

And then he outplays our goalies.

He may very well of been asking for too much from us. He will most certainly be getting a pay cut when he signs elsewhere, but that doesn't mean jack **** with what his demands here were.

2 years and 3 mill per from Wpg is my guess

Roman Cechmanek says hi.

That's why I said almost two decades.

Roman vs. Mason, in my mind, is a toss-up. Mason has been good as a Flyer. Roman specifically had the best year between theme since he was in Vezina running.

People have a really short memory when they think about what Mason has been playing behind his whole time here.

I think Hextall simply didn't feel like dealing with the potential drama of Mason being unhappy with his usage. One less headache.
