Petts talking about reviewing film. Mate, if that’s how they’re fixing their game, maybe don’t review footage because that shit isn’t working.

I couldn't be happier if Hextall jettisoned DeSmith and made Tokarski the back-up for the time being. Personally, I'd rather have a different style goalie - one who relies on size and positioning, rather than athleticism - to be the back-up.

But I'm done with DeSmith.

I place him in the same bin as Ruhwedel, Carter and Heinen. The sooner the Penguins move on from them, the better.

Desmith is a top 30 goaltender in the league in terms of SV%.

OK.

You're going to need at least five new forwards to do it, because this bottom six is incapable of doing what you're talking about.

Also need to get healthy on defense, because Letang and Petry - and Rutta, to a lesser extent - are key to exiting the zone more effectively.
The top 6 plays 2/3rds of the game at ES.

Here's hoping that Petry and Letang are the sparks. I do remember how bad it got in 2020 partially because Dumoulin and Marino were out. I could see them making a difference.
Ruutta, eh. Good third pairing guy. Doesn't help at all stylistically.

He was allegedly brought up because he can pk.

Why not let him pk some shifts? It's not like our stellar pk was getting it done

He had Gruden and Rust for a bit on the PK. But he uses the same players most of the time. He only used Gruden there because he needed to get another C in there.

How about asking him these questions because he gets away with talking extremely vaguely about what went on in a game:…was that because of player execution? Is there something the coaching staff could do to improve the PK? How do you think Jeff Carter/Chad Ruh/etc has performed on the PK? Do you think X should have gotten X minutes on the PK? What did you think about the team’s play at ES, given that Ottawa outshot you 24-10, or whatever the final #s are? How do you think L1 performed? Is that line living up to your expectations and what would you like to see them do better? Do you think that’s the best mix of personnel for L1?

Getting the D healthy indeed is key, and we will be a lot better for that, but not playing your 4th line and having L1 and L3 be really bad.... that is not going to get us anywhere.

Hexy is going to have to do something, because the coach clearly doesn't want to.

I've said it repeatedly....

The media has no balls to ask the tough questions. They don't want to create an unpleasant moment.

@Pancakes speaking of bad as when MJ coached.

First 28 of this season:

15-9-4

MJ when he was fired: 15-10-3

Pens are now 22-16-6. Teams that the Pens should beat even without Letang and Petry, they’re getting dunked on by them with goals.

The 14 and 15th placed teams in their conferences scored 8 goals on the pens in 2 games. This is a season where they had a 7 game losing streak, had like a month of solid hockey and then back to taking a shit for 3 out of 4 months.

Does any US hockey media actually do this though? I mean, with the possible exception of NY such (Brooks in particular, and that's NY Post).
It's a monopoly league and a relatively small sport in the US after all. No wonder it resembles a PRC press conference. Different in Canada as it is the national passion.

Once again. How is Desmith to blame for tonight?
Well, he did cause the situation that got Ottawa their first two goals with a very poor decision.

But I mostly agree. He saved a lot. A great lot. And what he didn't save mostly he had no play on. He is not high on my list of culpable ones in this one. Sure was a great deal better than Talbot.

I don't think it'll happen this year.

Petry and Letang and TJ will come back. The Isles suck worse than we do. We'll most likely play a little better with them back and make it into the playoffs.

Once we get there, I suppose anything can happen, but we'll probably be one and done. It'd rule to beat the Bruins though.
