I frequently quote the "deserve-to-win-o'meter."
Using that metric, the Pens "deserve" to be on a 9-game winning streak. But they've lost six (!) of those, including:
Seattle: 68% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
San Jose: 75% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
New Jersey: 54% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
Philadelphia: 84% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
Washington: 53% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
NYR: 78% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
Their total season deficit is -10, having lost 16 games they "deserved" to win and only winning 6 times when they "deserved" to lose. The prior two seasons weren't any better, when their season long deficits were -12 (2023-24) and -6 (2023-24).
Some of this can be chalked up to poor goaltending, but most organizations look at the coach when the team consistently loses so many games they're supposed to win.
