I frequently quote the "deserve-to-win-o'meter."

Using that metric, the Pens "deserve" to be on a 9-game winning streak. But they've lost six (!) of those, including:

Seattle: 68% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
San Jose: 75% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
New Jersey: 54% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
Philadelphia: 84% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
Washington: 53% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter
NYR: 78% on the deserve-to-win-o'meter

Their total season deficit is -10, having lost 16 games they "deserved" to win and only winning 6 times when they "deserved" to lose. The prior two seasons weren't any better, when their season long deficits were -12 (2023-24) and -6 (2023-24).

Some of this can be chalked up to poor goaltending, but most organizations look at the coach when the team consistently loses so many games they're supposed to win.

Also, including games where goalies split duties, the Pens' goalies have combined for 62 appearances thus far this season. They've received sub-.900 goaltending in 33 of those appearances!

You saw Karlsson play fantastic for Sweden when the coach isn't adjusting his game in idiotic ways and still chose to say this.
Played OK, but with higher end defensive partners - let's not forget that he was the man back when the Swedes lost their overtime games.

His lack of effort in the defensive zone in a Pens sweater is glaring, yet you chose to ignore it

On the only positive side, I see Ryan Shea scored twice.

Gotta feel good for a guy who's not even really NHL caliber to at least look back on his career and say he one time had a 2-goal game.
Except this will turn into, "see, Mike Sullivan made the right lineup decision."

So you're saying we need a good D partner for Karlsson? Duh!

People laughed at me when I suggested we should offer Pettersson a contract. I like the trade and I think we made the right call, ultimately. But we need a solid, stable left defenseman. And that goes for whether Erik Karlsson is here or not!

But before I trade a future HOF defenseman, I am canning the coach and trying ANYBODY else first.

Nice .700 save percentage game for Blom.
He has been awful. I love prospects and youth, and I always clamor to play the kids. But he has been beaten upstairs repeatedly and does not appear to be ready.

Which means he should either be the No. 1 in W-B/S or the No. 1 in Pittsburgh. Bite the bullet and reassess after the season or send him down. Being a backup is doing nothing for him.

Once again, player development is a big fat zero with this organization.

If you can't read the play and pick up your guy around the net it doesn't matter how much you deserve it. It's the minimum to be competitive and Sully can't/won't get us to do it in going on 7 years now.

One flaw in your plan - they aren't going to fire the coach. If they did have designs on doing so, they would have already done it. He's richly deserved to be canned, not just for handling of Karlsson, but for a dozen other things as well. But that's just not the way FSG "handles" things. And they certainly aren't going to can the 2026 US Olympic coach. Too afraid of the bad publicity a firing would bring (as if the publicity of being one of the five worst teams in the league is any better!). Just not the way it's done in this town (Tomlin, Shelton, Narduzzi, Capel)

Apparently Dubas gave a postgame interview and was asked many questions but I’m going to focus on this lol…

“Asked about the need to move on from Sullivan, he says the team has generally played well even if they weren't getting results.”

Also mentions wanting to build around the core players, specifically mentions Sid, Malkin, Letang, and....Rust lol

Such questions are pointless, no GM is going to say "Yeah, I am totally going to can that loser soon, I just need to do a few things in the meantime".

As for the game, I only watched the highlights and literally laughed out loud when the Rags took the lead with the shots being 30 to 8 in our favor. Experience Sullivan hockey. Seems that Geno did well, Crosby got a point, the tank is proceeding well and I had a good laugh. Win-win.

I should add, it was apparently a Q&A for season ticket holders after the game Dubas was speaking at, not a presser

This obsession with Rust that the organization has is about as annoying and frankly embarrassing as its obsession with Sullivan. Just lame, donkeybrains shit.

Oh well. Glad they lost again. Keep losing, ideally for the next 5 years or so.
