Happy Belated Birthday, @ColePens (even if I wished you a happy birthday on your birthday).

Did you get the gift that @Scandale du Jour and I sent you . . .

That’s been Sullivan’s MO, but he needs to do more matching up imo...Sid with an injury and 34 year old Malkin should be getting prime offensive minutes against the Habs lesser players, especially third pair D....let Blueger’s line grind and fight Danault, hopefully to a draw...

Geno's thrived on hard minutes and more responsibility this year though. It's fed the fire. I'm not sure removing him from it is the right call. Maybe Crosby should get a lighter match-up if he's too far off 100%, but I've little objection to riding Geno.

Go watch Malkin and Letang on the power play and you'll see the neutral zone mistakes. Ugh.

Okay, good point, but our whole PP is a neutral zone mistake and honestly whenever I hear Soggy talk about fixing the PP and that right hand shot I'm always thinking "screw that, get me a neutral zone wizard".

I sometimes wonder why we treat athletes a little different than we treat humans. We do this with celebrities, too.

I'll give 1 example. If I'm Justin Schultz, I'm possibly thinking of not playing. I cannot imagine they are being paid for this playoff. He's due for a contract and technically his contract expired 6/30. He could get paiiiiiiiiid in the offseason to set himself up. And let's face it.. if he faced a broken leg in this "playoff" he won't get paid.

Now.. you have to be away from your family in a pandemic. You are doing this in August. It feels so foreign as hockey players are just so so so into their schedule. Sid is an example of that.

So the "HEY IT'S THE CUP!" Yeah.. dude it's a game. It's a business. And if fans want to ignore that, that is so strange to me.

I don't know. If I'm Justin Schultz the impending free agent, after the last 3 years I've had and knowing it's going to be a buyers market in free agency . . . I'm playing to try to do something to pump my value.

It makes it clear that there isn't a ton of faith behind Murray.

Nor should there be. Right now, it's his net with a short leash, although I do wonder what happens if he gets lit up like a Christmas tree in this one.

Here's a pic of the Toronto arena right now pre-game.

That is so weird.

Apparently they also have added a bunch of camera angles.

Going to be weird watching, but once again . . . this is a welcome respite from the daily dosage of crappy news out there.

For their sake-- really for everyone's sake-- I hope the league pulls this off.

So.... what is the conversation here?

People are stinking about players not getting paid in the post season so we should be grateful they are playing?

So they were getting paid to sit for 2-4 months and now people are complaining they are playing without pay?

Confused. Don't really care either.
Technically they are paid to play in the playoffs and the summer. Their contracts are paid, I believe July 1st to June 31st.

They also each get their split of the team pool, depending how far they go. Relative to their contracts, it isnt much. As little as around $15,000 in the first round per player on a 25 man roster and up to, I believe around $300,000 for winning the cup.

The players dont get paid anything to play in the playoffs has been BS since the NHLPA fought for each team to get a pot per round for the players in '05, I believe?

Admittedly, I havent looked into how they are paid this year.

I think @ColePens already got his Maatta jersey name plate changed for free at the rink store when we got Kahun?

Yeah, but you'd think a guy like @ColePens with a shoe closet as big as both of our houses combined would own multiple jerseys.

Why I've even heard- unconfirmed from @Scandale du Jour, mind you-- that @ColePens owns Jack Johnson jerseys in the home, away, and third jerseys colors for Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Los Angeles, as well as home and away colored jerseys for his college, high school, and pee wee teams.
