If the team sucks you trade off what you can and then fire/force the coach to fall on his sword and hire someone for a rebuild. Not doing so is malpractice.
They made a call to make Sid comfortable. Who are they trading?

These guys are not getting traded...

Crosby, Malkin, Rust, Rakell, Letang and Karlsson. Pettersson is up in the air, but I'm thinking they sign him.

So what are you getting for the rest?

Trinkets and maybe some hash to smoke at the water fountain pow wow time.

I care because the team is nigh on unwatchable and about as good at developing young players as Yohe is at criticizing Sullivan. Tanking is fine if it's on purpose and with the idea of developing young talent. A team being super old and yet "tanking" inadvertedly with no end in sight is a different animal altogether.
That's what you'll get as long as Sid is here. Suck it up buttercups.....

Bad ownership, GM, and HC is already here.... @HandshakeLine

Tossing the least of the issue does nothing. It's so bad they alienated Mario. Brought back a failed logo, and raised a jersey that shouldn't be raised.

We need to true trifecta of lame stars Ugene, which will happen as soon as Geno retires and Sid signs an extension.

It’s fascinating to me that Sid is speed running the Jagr path, but hey, people loved when Jarda faked being interested in being back here (so he could pimp a player from Kladno), so maybe it’s the only smart play.

Saying "everyone but #87 is available" might seem functionally dramatic but in reality it means next to nothing because of all the NMCs the core has. Like a Malkin or a Letang aren't going anywhere unless they want out. And there's no indication they do.

One could argue that this is actually one of the best rosters the Penguins have ever iced.

Top to bottom there is not one guy that people would look at and be like "he is terrible and shouldn't be in the NHL", except for Rust.

Usage, deployment, plus lack of a working system can turn a good team into what we see now.

Karlsson was THE Sharks offense two seasons ago, do you think he magically forgot what he was doing?
I am not a Pens fan but follow the league closely so I would need to do more research to be certain..but

1. Letang is nearing the end
2. Grezlyk is on your first pair and is a 7th d most places he's been
3. Graves is not a fit for a team that is slow all over
4. Goaltending is inconsistent at best - all 3
5. Two ageing stars up front
6. Older or unproven players that lack either speed or brains.

If other renditions of this roster were worse, well I admit that i missed it.

I know Graves-Letang was pretty damn bad as a pairing last season, but was it ever as egregious as Grz-Letang? This is the answer to the question, "can it ever be a bad thing to have two puck-moving defensemen on the same unit?" Oh yes it can be.

He, meaning the grand poobah behind the bench, simply cannot stick with that pairing. I know he has limited options, especially because of his close-minded approach to coaching, but my God. How many more games are we going to see these two together? If I had a dollar for every time one (or BOTH) of these guys blow the zone early and get caught up ice, or are caught flat-footed on dump-ins, etc. etc.

How is Pickering playing down on the farm? I don't care about points. How is he PLAYING? Is he a train wreck? No, OK call him up.

Letang needs stability. In this organization, the youth is for righting and steadying the ship.

If only someone had warned Dubas before!

Anyhow since I can’t comment in the salary cap thread, I’m sure everyone is discussing the matter in a calm and rational manner.

What’s that you say? Oh pixies and seal are fighting over some bullshit? I never saw that coming.

lol nobody is even in there talking about anything.

Nobody cares about these douchbags anymore. Nor should they. If they don't wanna be serious about running a hockey club then they shouldn't expect much time/money commitment from the fans.

Pretty awesome that in the same offseason that Evgeni Malkin practically had to beg for a new contract the team opted instead to fall all over themselves to sign Kris Letang to a lifetime contract. That decision is aging well.
The Pens and the rest of the NHL under Value Malkin. Honestly Malkin on any other team in his prime would have Outdone Crosby and Ovi aside from Injury and him being the number 1 option.

It was obvious this team should have fired Sully a while ago. I was pissed they traded Jake before firing Sully.

To think this motherf***er has the nerve to even suggest trading a franchise icon before trying a new coach pisses me off. What a clown show.

Thank god he’s got a no trade clause. This is amateur hour

Just listening to players statements after today’s practice- they decided too look themselves in the mirror, they after five years of sucking they’ll finally figure it out
They will now play to put them in position that will give them best chance to win

Sully made sure to erase every bit of brain cells that may have remained after all these concussions

I'm sure they'll come out and play hard next game. Maybe even win. Maybe even win a few games in a row.

But it won't be long before another Dallas type performance happens. It's inevitable.

I don't understand how any of that explains keeping the miserable coach around and his complete failure to develop any players of consequence since Jake Guentzel.
This is what boggles my mind. No matter what part of the fence you sit on about whether the team should go for it, should rebuild, should do this or that, every single scenario looks better if you fire Sullivan.

Any discussion about keeping Sullivan "because what does it change" is asinine to me. Removing Sullivan works best for ANY road this team decides to take, whether it be "go for it one last time" or "rebuild now and unload everyone". Hell, even the current "can't pick a lane" approach would still be better with a new coach.

Pickering> Grzelcyk. I'll deal with the growing pains with Pickering for the rest of this season playing for the big club.
I almost forgot we have this guy. I guess it's because the way this org is run, he'll never get a proper shot anyway. Sign all the Grzelcyks, Beauvilliers and Lizottes, and block any possible shot a prospect has of sniffing the ice. Rinse and repeat.

Dubas is such a freakin shmuck dude.
