The dinosaur one or no deal. Need someone to set the tone.

FSG will save some money by getting us a Giga Pet.

Great, why don't you go to management and see if they'll hear you out? Or, you can just rail against Sully all summer. Either way. lol

I'm on a hockey message board.

One game at a time. I am going to watch and enjoy the hockey whether they win or lose. I think the players should be emotionally invested the rest of the season after the deadline meltdown.
The hockey they've been playing since the Calgary meltdown is not really enjoyable, though. Sloppy and sucky.

Dubas has a formula that shows Giga Pets expected enjoyment per hour makes it the superior product.

The Pens are quite lovecraftian out there
The power play is certainly an indescribable horror.

We definitely need to not just replace the staff but make sure it’s the right staff. We’re gonna need to thread the needle on a staff (and HC) that’s equally comfortable dealing with stubborn vets and naive young players. Mike Johnston was new but clearly not better than Bylsma even at the end of his rope here.

Assistants are going to be important to balance the above things out. And to fix the PP.

We can’t bring someone in that ticks all the above boxes but inexplicably thinks that, like, EK and Letang should be on the same pairing, like Hakstol did in Philly.

Also there’s a few players on this team that strike me as the type that would be real quick to tune out a coach that didn’t play at a high level. Like Sid & Geno.

so we just throw him out because his numbers don't support your argument? How convenient. See, you're not dealing in reality. You're cherry picking and distorting the truth which makes your arguments very flawed and uneven.

And no, the stats aren't there to support your argument. Now you're lying. Shots don't always equal goals. You're cherry picking a subset of statistics that YOU believe support your argument. Well they don't. How do I know this? Because there's no one with even a modicum of common sense who watches this team that believes they are a playoff caliber group.

Alright. You clearly have no interest in having a good-faith or even genuine argument. Have fun being mad lol.

I'm not mad in the least. You're embracing a subset of stats that doesn't tell the whole story.

If you sincerely believe this is a playoff caliber team, that premise isn't set in reality. You're trying to use stats that you believe fit your argument but don't paint an accurate picture. When someone does that they're grasping at straws.

Not long ago our 5 on 5 numbers were good. But again that doesn't inform us as to the PP or OT woes.

Our record is what it is for a multitude of reasons. And it goes much deeper than the coach.

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts about the Penguins over the last few days and thinking about what I would do heading into next season.

1. The coaching staff needs to be replaced. No matter how you twist it, you can't avoid going into the next season with a new coach.
2. Ideally sign two wingers for Malkin. If they bring Güntzel back, it will only be to play with Malkin. At the start of the season I would give DOC the chance to secure a place in the top 6 or confirm their performance from this season. Bunting – Crosby – Rust is a good first line that should generate enough attacks.
3. Schedule Eller and Acciai exclusively for the 4th row and make both available for any trades
4. Plan Rakkell firmly for the 3rd line and fill the rest of the offense with young players like Puustinen, Bemström, Puljujärvi, Poulin, Ponomarev, etc. The Pens need young players, especially on the third and fourth lines be able to give full throttle in every game.
5. Simplify the defensive system and sign a physical defender alongside Ludvig for the third pair
6. Have Blomqvist run alongside Jarry as the second goalkeeper
7. Trade Smith, preferably for a young player

Bunting – Crosby – Rust
DOC – Malkin – UFA
young guy – young guy – Rakell
young guy - Eller - Acciari

Mixture of Pettersson, Letang, Graves, Karlsson, Ludvig and a UFA

Jarry
Blomqvist

What do you think?

I don’t think our D is gonna change much but I don’t think it needs to. A system change, both with and without the puck, should help them. If Karlsson & Letang can still have good games here and there then giving them more passing options from the D zone out and more shooting options in the O zone should go along way. Just need a 3rd pair RD in free agency, and let Joseph and Ludvig compete for the final LD spot. It’s fine.

The forwards are a bit of a mess. Sid needs a winger and Malkin should probably move to wing himself- but not with Sid or we’re a one line team. And we don’t have any other centers for him. Bunting fits with nobody and Smith is basically a 3rd wheel on a 3rd line, but at 2x the cost. However, if can get some good value out of a few guys, like DOC & Puustinen, and then maybe also a Ponomarev & Poulin on league-minimum deals, that’ll help. Every team has some fairly paid and some overpaid guys but it’s about also having those cheap guys playing above their pay grade. Maybe we can get 15 goals from DOC, 15 from Puustinen in middle 6 roles for near league minimum. Poulin & Pony is the next wave, Yager & Ilyin the wave after that.

Poulin has to be on the roster next year or he is on waivers.

Great job developing to give him 3 games before that happens.

Honestly given what we did with Poehling last year because he had "a medical condition" wouldn't be surprised to see him not qualified.

It’s a f***up that he’s been WB/S’s best forward and hasn’t gotten a single call up. Suggests he’s not in the plans, but probably also doesn’t have much trade value.

Earlier in the year the excuse could’ve been that he missed a lot of time so they just wanted him to get some games in in all situations, but no excuse to leave him down still. He can play any forward position and they use him to PK so that’s not an excuse either. Not like he’s one-dimensional.

He missed a lot of dues paying time while others were paying theirs. No one will say that, but, given this is a dinosaur league/leagues, I suspect there's at least an undercurrent of that thinking at the management level.

It's just an incredibly bad development path for him. I understand his situation has exacerbated it to some degree, but this is why it was such bullshit he was sent down to start the season similarly with Puustinen.
