Lol…I read this..even the national writers see a losing team…insightful lol

“5. More and more, the Penguins are looking like a non-playoff team and have been more ersatz than excellent since last season's trade deadline.”

I would say 'moribund' would be a more accurate fancy word than 'ersatz', when describing the Penguins this year.

Tokarski just got another shutout in Wilkes…how long is it going to take Sullivan and the FO to make this move and put Jarry on LTIR…lol…I know they need him to work thru his struggles if they’re to go anywhere but rn they need wins first and foremost…

Do you think the pens get back to backs if MAF was healthy and murray was never uncovered in time?

Do you think sullivan would have still had the success?

I know Fleury played well in many games in those runs.... But... Anyway, I'm sure Sully will totally make the right call with tending. For sure. It's not like HBK was an accidental decision either....

Ideally I'd like for Dumoulin and Kapanen to be traded together just to tear off the band-aid. But only 3 teams can take that on without taking back salary (which I don't think is do-able). And then another 3 teams that have more than $4M in cap space left.

Those teams are: Buffalo, Arizona, Anaheim, Chicago, Detroit, and Ottawa.

Dumoulin has a limited trade clause and I'm assuming Arizona would not be approved. And maybe Buffalo. Unless those teams promise to flip him to a contender, but I don't know how that would work (if even allowable).

All that to say that I think Ottawa may have interest in him (and Kapanen?).

As to question #1, maybe…MAF was the reason we beat the Caps, although he had some hiccups against Ottawa…yeah, we probably would have lost to Ottawa if MAF was playing the entire series…lol

Thinking about this shoots me back to days when the team was formidable.
Now.... just..... I don't know... just a different feeling now with the team.
I'll fondly remember 06-2020 Penguins runs.
Well.... maybe 2018, team slowly started making ridiculous moves and...... ehhh.. we all know the story.

Also a question:
Would the penguins have three-peated had Wilson not tripped Maatta ... or got called on it?

I think we're romanticizing some of those years.

MAF was always volatile.
The Bruins' sweep in 2012-13 had many here in shambles.
During the 2015-16 season the team was a wreck at points.
I could go on.

Hockey's hard.

Not over Sully and Sleepy’s dead bodies. A young goalie getting a chance? You are crazy.

A front office and coach that are allergic to young players will do marvelous things for a team that needs to rebuild.

Tokarski is not young…he’s insurance and right now we need it…and as I speak, Sullivan announcing Jarry is starting tonight in WPG…I guess they want as many losses as possible lol

It’s absolutely insane. Sully is so far gone these days. He’s in full Bylsma mode, maybe even worse.

Man, playoff MAF from like 2010 through like 2013 was something else. Might as well have been Dan Cloutier back there. Total shitshow.

I don't think you can really do anything with the goaltending but cross your fingers and hope Jarry turns it around. It's not like a roster player that you can call up someone from WBS and sit them for a few games. You have to play either DeSmith or Jarry.

This team has flaws, but they're also sitting at .500 despite having a 7 game losing streak at the beginning of the year. You know this team will go on one of their hot runs and go like 13-2 in a 15 game span and the national media will start acting like they're a top tier contender again.

I still think a top pairing LD would be fantastic for this club. I think Pettersson's looked good this year, but I still don't think he's a guy you ideally want as your top LD if you're aiming for a long playoff run.

Obviously Letang getting his head out of his ass would help a lot, but even if he's back to form I think a rotating cast of Pettersson, POJ and the ghost of Dumoulin isn't good enough.

Man, I wish the Pens could have pulled off the Lindholm trade last year.

I think if we are trading both, we need to get a helpful player back. Ideally, an impact 3rd liner.

Hard to say who Dumo may have on his list but looking at those teams, I wouldn't be so quick to assume that all are on there. Detroit and Ottawa are up and coming teams with opening for him. Buffalo is on the upswing as well. The others are in shambles but there's worse places than Arizona and Anaheim to finish out a career. Chicago though, that's an organization well deserving of Chicago at the moment.

He was awful in 2014 as well. He wasn't great in 2015 wither. He lost his one game in 2016. Good in 17 though.

The 2010-2015 years were really tough.

MAF was lights out in 2015. Had 10 shut outs and a .920 sv% then a .927 in playoffs.

The problem is that you only have 6 slots for defensemen and you have Pettersson, POJ and Smith as guys who should be playing every day.

I think you have just encapsulated Sullivan's entire coaching lane now... cross you fingers and hope unless the player is a Euro or < 27.

I'd easily move any of our LD if we could land a Chychrun. Obviously those aren't the key pieces Arizona would want, but I'm saying if somehow a deal for Chychrun could be made where one of Petts, POJ or Smith was involved, I'd be for it.

I know Chychrun's got his own warts, but he's a guy who I think could blossom into a very good #2 who can either pair up with Letang to form a strong top pairing or who could carry his own pairing.

Are we sure Smith should be an everyday NHLer right now? Looking to be mostly a PP specialist in WBS at the moment. Getting top pairing minutes but hasn't really stood out to me other than when on the PP.

I've always said that the Pens had a perfect split in that series with the Caps: we won 2 games, Washington won 2 games, and the refs "won" 2 games for the Capitals. With Tampa doing the job of unepxectedly eliminating Boston, and heavyweights like Winnipeg and Nashville being eliminated in the other conference, the path to the Cup was as easy as it could possibly have been.

But the league, via the refs, said: "Three in a row.....? Nah, time for someone else to get a turn."
