I think Dubas probably thought/knew he could dump Granlund in an EK trade so he didn't use a buyout. He can use the DOC buyout if the trade doesn't materialize and he wants to move onto other deals

My guess is he'd like to put him in a trade to SJ. That would make the most sense for both teams. We're going to be taking on a rather exorbitant contract if we make that deal, Granlund would help offset the cap along with a couple other pieces. Now if Granlund by chance would be included in such a deal then it looks like a solid move. Depending on what other assets we send their way of course.

Give me an example of what you're talking about? I don't think we need to be on the hook for Granlund for x amount of years in addition to EK. I think that's too much salary to be encumbered with. And to be clear I'm okay if we don't make the deal as long as we just move on and find other targets.

If We Hold up a deal for that sort of thing that's absurd. We can go over the cap if need be, if we need to buy him out which again I don't necessarily agree with, but if we do decide to buy him out we can still get EK now. We can go over the cap by 10%, so that should not hinder our ability to buy the player out if we have to. That said I don't think we're going to have to.
