For the sullivan speech admirers

"Anybody can beat anybody in this league. That's the reality," Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said. "There's such a fine line between winning and losing. You have to be at your best every night. When you're not, you're going to run the risk of getting beat."

Which is a good quote about the league, but nothing to do directly with the club he commands.
There was no fine line yesterday. They looked awful.

Laying the foundation with the first excuse for our upcoming loss to the Columbus Anybodies? Hopefully it's his final loss as coach.

Yohe's ten observations after the game mention Sullisma exactly once.
Yohe has his favorites and not favorites and sees everything through those lenses. We all are that way to some extent but he's particularly bad, particularly for an "objective" writer. He liked Fleury more than kids like Christmas and he goes out of his way to bash Letang. Same thing with Sullivan good and Hextall bad.

I'm so glad sullivan hockey came to be and forced me from the sport i loved for 20 years into football.... the thrill of a good football match has no equal.
I still love nhl playoffs like no other, especially the first round match-ups.... but sullivan hexdull hockey has sapped my interest in regular season hockey.

I still would rather a new fresh team helmed by crosby and malkin fighting for playoffs rather than this decrepit soft veteran hockey.... really... it is near unwatchable.

Keep this in mind, not only did we lose five consecutive playoff series, we were favored in the majority of those. And in a couple decidedly so. My point being, why romanticize about this team making the postseason? It hasn't worked out well for us for half a decade now. Change is needed.

I'm pretty sure there is not a soul alive who doesn't think that change is needed.

I'm talking about our core players. Many want regime change, GM or coach, but they want to keep their precious core together. I don't believe Sully will be fired. He just signed a long-term deal, and he's chummy with at least one or two in the FSG Management Group. So, with him being unlikely to go, it's time to sell off our assets.

Sullys resume after the b2bs is frankly quite impressive:

-Eliminated from play-in round
-Swept in first round
-Lose 3-1 series lead in first round
-Don't make the playoffs

Get that man a billboard!

I'm pretty sure there is not a soul alive who doesn't think that change is needed.

Well there are 1 or 2 particular posters who...and I quote "think very highly of Sullivan" and "who else are you going to get?"

But I suppose cockroaches never die either, so...

From August 2022

"Mike is one of the top coaches in the National Hockey League and it was important for us to have him signed long term," said general manager Ron Hextall. "He is a great leader that finds success through communication, honesty and accountability. We know that Sully is committed to continuing a winning culture here in Pittsburgh."

Not sure if I want the Islanders to crush the penguins hopes tonight, or if the islanders lose tonight and the penguins have hope tomorrow only to lay an egg and lose to columbus... that would be priceless to see and hear sullivan about that performance.

I just want this guy gone. It's sickening how much I can't stand him and hex

You have to admire Sullivan's tremendous modesty in keeping those traits well-hidden, so as not to embarrass or intimidate the mere mortals around him.

As a Habs fan first and Pittsburgh 2nd, im torn. I absolutely want to maximize our odds at Bedard - and were only 1 point behind Arizona with a game in hand. If we beat Isles, good chance we finish ahead of Arizona, which decreases our chances even more

I think ill still root for Habs to win, to allow Pitt to (maybe) qualify.

Can't describe how pathetic it is that Pitt lost yesterday. One might say there's rarely been a team in the history of hockey who wanted to lose a game more badly than Chicago should have wanted to yesterday - in last place with ~1 game to go and a shot at one of the greatest prospects ever. To lose 5-2 like that was really terrible.

I thought for sure Pens would win last 2 games against Chicago and Columbus.

I don't condone losing but after last night this team doesn't deserve another chance.

You also can't have a team blow the amount of leads in the 3rd period as we have this year. This team needs an entirely new FO, coaching Staff, goalie group, and as many new players as possible.

Quit acting like they are the smartest people in the room and get to work.

Oh for crying out loud.
I should preface thats the August signing comments...lol so hilarious

You can be the best coach in hockey history. But coaches in sports, and in hockey specifically, have a shelf life. Sometimes, it's just not working anymore and a change is needed.

I'm shocked he lasted as long as he did.

Even more shocking is signing this guy to be standing on the bench for 10 years.
Ridiculous to think a coach can last that long in modern NHL standards.

(what is the longest a coach is at a team currently)

Pens definitely win their last game.

That is what losers do.

Blow meaningful games that they should win and then win meaningless games.

See the Steelers of the past decade as an example.
if the islanders clinch tonight than yes, no stress no pressure no anything on the penguins they will come out flying and win 5-0 (or something).

We want to clean up management and coaching staff and a fresh start, so no worries, go ahead and lose! We don't deserve to make the playoffs anyways

I used to watch the NFL but no longer... but I still know enough to see tomlin is a hack :wg:
It must be a pittsburgh thing.... though the steelers are one step ahead of star players retiring and moving into the new era of talent.... Penguins are still one, two, three years from losing one of or both of sid and geno.

The future is going to be ugly for the penguins.

After the success against the Wings why make lineup changes? Why play a different style?

Sullivan literally watched something work and then turned around and messed with it.

it feels like this happening in this fashion was the only chance you had to actually get a full on rebuild of the organizations management. barring a miraculous gift from another team theres no silver lining to having it go down like this. total systemic failure from top to bottom.
