They literally win this game going away with even average goaltending.

That's either something that should bolster their confidence going forward because Jarry can't possibly play this bad again, or it completely wrecks their confidence because of their recent history of poor goaltending.

Hope for scenario 1.

I think they can make some system adjustments to cut down on the scoring chances off the rush, which were 3 of the Isles 4 goals. Cut that out, make them earn their chances, have Jarry pull his head out of his ass, and I'm confident it's not time to panic yet.

Game 2 will tell the story. If the Isles continue getting scoring chances off the rush due to our own poor mental mistakes and Jarry continues to shit the bed, well we know where that leads.

I'm remaining hopeful, for now. Hope DeSmith gets healthy quick.

I know it's low hanging fruit level to blame a loss on goaltending but, uhhhhhh. I'm gonna do it anyway. Jarry was out to lunch on at least two out of the first three goals. I'll give Pamieri credit for a great shot in a small area on the winner. But, it should have been a Pens win in regulation. He better un-f**k himself or this is going back to the island down 0-2.

Just massively disappointed. I guess that's par for the course. When the game is on the line, the Pens don't come through anymore. Maybe the end of the era. Maybe i'm just really pissed off right now.

Pathetic. It just felt that way the whole time. Here's to game 2.

Starting to feel that way. 3rd year in a row where they don’t show up in the playoffs.

It's not the end yet. We started like a freight train and then the jitters for the young goalie shook the team too. We also need Geno back. I'm confident in this team, they didn't fold at all. Gotta get that goalie figured out, ASAP.

I will say this is as disappointed as I've felt since Game 5 of the ECF in 2016. Luckily that one went differently.

The powerplay could have changed this game. I laugh at allllllllllll the f***ing "pundits" writing about this series in the last week. All of them f***ing pen to paper a bunch of bullshit. It's always been special teams. We score on the powerplay, we play a different game. If we play into that 1 goal game, the Isles feed off of it and as mentioned - they get better. They thrive in the 1 goal games.

Masssssssssssssssssively disappointed.

I’d be really nervous right now if I hadn’t just stepped out of my time machine after Sid’s goal at the 8:32 mark of the 2nd OT.
Dammit. :( I had a feeling I shouldn’t have stepped on that butterfly.

Jarry was terrible. This team simply does not have what it takes to win in the playoffs. We can keep making excuses and trying to explain it away but they have won 1 playoff game in years and keep exiting in the first round. They aren't good and if they lose this series Sullivan should go. Whatever he is doing is not good enough.

Well....

Sullivan has not changed the narrative much... he's starting to look a lot like Tomlin... every playoff game...

Jarry was bad. Real bad.
Our Defense was really bad. Petts was bad. Marino at the end... wtf.
Sully's forward scramble didn't work.
The defense holding puck and couldn't locate passes. I get we want to make a good pass but they hold it AND CAN'T make a 1st Pass.

You know Matheson's gonna have a hell of a game 2 because that's just what he is; awful in one game, great in another.

coaching wasn’t the difference and generally never is

I dunno. Coaches should be able to get a team's collective head out of its ass once things go off the rails. They CERTAINLY should be working on the abysmal special teams.

I don't think coaches really have much to do in the NHL really, but there are somethings they have control over: team preparation and special teams being key among them.
