If hockey didn't work out as a real career, Sidney Crosby knew from a young age that he wanted to be a firefighter.
"We did a tour of the fire station for whatever reason," Crosby recalled of that early interest. "I don't know if it's the similarities (with hockey) with the gear, but just the camaraderie and everything that goes in it. There's so many different things that they're involved with, and the courage it takes and all that. It's just something that as a young kid, that's something I want to do."
Fortunately for Crosby, Pittsburgh, and the sport of hockey, Crosby ended up being a pretty decent hockey player and never had to turn to his fallback plan ... though he quipped with a grin that "there's still time" for a career path change.
Monday's game between the Penguins and Kings marks the Kings' first home game since the Los Angeles wildfires broke out, killing over 20 individuals and destroying thousands of structures, displacing many from their homes. The Kings replaced their center ice logo with one for the LAFD during the team's recent long road trip, and both the Penguins and Kings will wear special helmet stickers tonight recognizing the LAFD. Penguins coaches wore LAFD hats during the morning skate, and players had identical ones in the locker room after. The Penguins' equipment staff also donned shirts to honor the LAFD.
Crosby never got to live out that dream of being a firefighter, but his respect and admiration for firefighters remains strong, and he's looking forward to the Penguins being part of a night recognizing those who battled the Los Angeles wildfires.
"People have been through a lot here," Crosby said. "Anything we can do to show our support, it's inspiring to us. Any way we can show our support and help, you try to do that."

I was a little worried there of no Rakell in. I know he's got value, but I don't think we can do the full rebuild thing anyways. They need to try a coaching change before blowing it all up.

Obviously his value has really dropped, but with Graves not even playing when healthy sometimes, can they not find any trade with him? I don't think it's even that unlikely he bounces back on another team, but if you barely play him and pay him that much, get rid of him. As long as it doesn't cost a lot to get rid of him.

Thats an off season move. If you tried in season it would cost a lot and the Pens dont need the cap space.
