Just like with Puustinen, I don’t think anyone should be surprised about Puljujarvi clearing waivers. Should Sullivan have played him more? Yeah, but the Penguins depth is dogshit and I seriously doubt Puljujarvi would be in a bottom-6 of an actually good team.

He’s a AAAA player when every team has numerous AAAA players like him, even the Penguins have a few. That said, I’m happy he didn’t get claimed so he can help out at WBS.
this is a unique HFB situation. I don't see anyone saying Puljujarvi is a "good"++ player. In fact, most posts on this situation are qualified with, 'i know he's not great, but...'

I'm happy he didn't get claimed, because I continue to believe he's better than what we have playing on a nightly basis. This team is struggling to just make the playoffs (and we have lost twice in the last week to two teams we absolutely had to be able to beat if we want to make the playoffs) an we continue to be, "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!" about the bottom-6.

Yeah that's what I meant when I said that Sullivan should have played him more. He should have played here because the Penguins have shit depth, but Puljujarvi himself isn't anything actually good. He's just better than the other shit they have.

Puljujarvi will go to WBS when they activate Pettersson later today. He'll probably slot right in on a line with Katchouk and Bemstrom, which will allow the McGroarty-Broz-Koivunen line to stay together.

I'd have to do the math on veteran games played, but when Poulin and Puustinen come back, WBS could have some significant forward depth.

Too bad their defense grouping is in shambles. Look at how many defensemen are out for WBS for various reasons, and this doesn't include Clurman or Pickering.

I hope he goes to WBS and gets some good games in. It wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest he could be a throw in for a TDL move to a team that could use a decent depth player for the playoffs. With Poulin injured, it's possible he could be a call up in the future. If not, he could be a good top line player replacement in WBS if someone like McGroarty gets the call.

I may be a bit crazy here but I think the TDL will be a boost to us. I think Dubas is managing "perception" as much as anything. He can't tear it down to the studs because he needs to maintain the perception that "yeah, we are totally still trying to win a cup". But if comes to the TDL, you can use "well, we had the opportunity to add to our draft capital or add young assets or give good guys the chance to win" - it offers an out from that "well aren't you competing!?".

You send Pettersson, DOC, Neds, and maybe another depth player out (Beauvillier?) and you could really see another jolt to the roster that coooooould be a catalyst to a WC1/2 slot and at least a ? come playoff time. I think that includes bringing up McGroarty, Blomqvist, and maybe a guy like Pono.

Raks-Sid-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Tomasino
McGroarty-Lizotte-Trade Coming Back
Nieto-Acciari-Pono

POJ-Letang
Pickering-Karlsson
Graves-Gryz

Blomqvist
Jarry

That's a lineup that could go on an interesting run post TDL.

NEW REASONS. No re-runs.
Less than 5 hours to face-off in Detroit. Plus lineups will be out before that - but we can't - well shouldn't - whine about Poolparty not being in the lineup. And complaining about Jarry starting isn't a new reason, so we may have to wait to see how/when Detroit scores on its first shot.

Man seeing how well Chycrun is doing brings back my annoyance of hextall.

If the dude wouldn’t have been so wishy washy we problem have Chycrun make the playoffs and don’t trade for karlsson.

He sucked

I’d rather them go for a better defensemen than 3rd line forward.

I don't see a need to trade for a forward with McGroarty, Koivunen, Broz and Ponomarev sitting in the AHL as very close to NHL ready. O'Connor and Beauvillier are almost assuredly going to be traded at the deadline and I figure at least one of those guys will be replaced with one of their top AHL players. I wouldn't even be surprised to see the McGroarty-Broz-Koivunen line just stick together and come up as its own L3, leaving Bunting-Malkin-Tomasino as L2.

I actually think they need a good 4th line forward that fits what Sullivan is looking for while not being a horrid player outside of it. People can fairly roll their eyes at this, but I think a big reason why the 4th line sucks and Sullivan is playing these crappy Nieto/Acciari types is because Dubas didn't give him better versions of those players. You can acquire a Tanev type of guy to play on L4 that both fits what Sullivan wants while also not being a complete drag on the team, Lizotte fits that perfectly.

They need D help far more than they need F help IMO. I'm okay-ish with POJ-Letang and Pickering-Karlsson but that bottom pair is an absolute nightmare that needs to be dramatically improved. They don't have the ability to improve that pair through WBS, so they must do that from outside of the organization. My ideal lineup would have something like a Cole-Schultz caliber 3rd pair that can reliably give you 18-19 minutes a night, especially if you're running with POJ and Pickering as your top-4 LD.

It's not realistic but my hope would be to have something like this to end the year:

1. Trade Beauvillier, Grzelcyk, Nedjelkovic and O'Connor for futures (Nieto too if anyone will give you a pick for him)
2. Trade futures for Hague and Borgen, with the intent on keeping them beyond this year
3. If you can trade Acciari or Graves as well, look for a young upgrade on them as well (4th line RW for Acciari, someone to push POJ to #7D for Graves)

Rakell-Crosby-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Tomasino
McGroarty-Broz-Koivunen
Lizotte-Ponomarev-Acciari (unless you can trade Acciari)
Glass-Hayes

Hague-Karlsson
Pickering-Letang
POJ-Borgen
Graves (unless you can trade Graves)

Jarry-Blomqvist

You need assets to get assets. Our assets have no movement clauses. Not sure what you don't understand about the situation.
If you think it’s NMCs that are in the way then I think it’s you who doesn’t understand the situation.

Pens prospect pool is moving closer to middle of the pack after being bottom 3 for a decade at least
Moving closer? By definition yes, crawling out of the bottom 5 is closer. There’s no way to look at our pool as anywhere near middle.
