We got a 2nd for 2 years of Hayes' $3.75. You'll get at least that for Saad. Can't split that space and do better. So what better use of that space do you propose?
Retain on a guy like Petts and maximize the return on our biggest fish at the trade deadline.

Also, the Blues don't have any 2hd rounders for EACH of the next three drafts.

He has four goals on the year and a 4.5 mil cap hit for this year and next. That would make no sense.
The fascination I think mainly comes from fans that were around in that draft and were paying attention to our draft position and Saad being on the board. But at the time we still had Shero and company with their “all defenseman belong to us” mentality. And those fans, I was one of them, wanted to see the local kid drafted with at least one of our 1st rounders that year. Now take it one of those two dmen became one hell of an asset for the organization. The other is barely a cliffnote.

Days are long gone that I would ever want him on this team unless he came in as a free agent for cheap. But I think that’s a epicenter of a lot of peoples fascination with him is they wish we would have drafted him.

Never understood the fascination with Saad.

That said, I'd gladly take him on for nothing and then plan on flipping him later. They're going to trade O'Connor so they'll need someone to replace him in the lineup.

Is a 32 year old Saad any good? Can’t say I’ve seen a ton of him.

His stats suggest he's bottomed out hard, but no idea whether that's situation/confidence or physical ability.

Incidentally, I'd suggest the Saad thing has something to do with him being a good top six winger who's been rumoured to be available for about half of the last 10 seasons, if not more. His name would come up a ton here even if he wasn't from Pittsburgh.

Anyone still subscribe to him? Just interested in what it says about the offers received for Rust.

Jake on pace for over 90 points and 50 goals this season.

I don’t understand how Sid isn’t livid. People in the front office looked at him with a straight face and said they were going to compete.

I think an inconvenient conclusion we need to start coming to here is that it is 1000% time to move on from DOC if there is value to be had there. I love this kid, and when you look at the specs on paper, it's all there - size, speed, and forechecking - but none of it manifests into anything useful for us. I don't think there would be any discernable difference between Hayes, Puljujarvi, or DOC in the lineup. But several people have suggested he would have lots of value around the league, and I honestly see why a team would want him. He's our own Barclay Goodrow and if we can get a good deal, we need to take it. Again, love the kid and I want him to be successful but it's now on that list of non-impact players that we need less of.

Couple possible offers:
Dallas: Bourque for DOC+3rd
Avs: Ritchie for DOC+3rd+
Tampa: LA's 2nd straight up
Minnesota: Tougher as they have fewer picks unless we take a 2nd in 2026. But they have a couple decent prospects. Perhaps Riley Heidt?

I'd also be willing to add him in with Pettersson to get that larger deal like: Hoglander, Pettersson, 1st.

Generally agree with the direction suggested here. DOC is a nice player if you're a contender looking for that one extra piece, but he's not going to be an affordable middle sixer the next time the Penguins fit that description.

Sell him for futures and hope you get a better DOC that's ready to contribute to the 2028 playoff run.

there is no chance in hell that you are getting that level of prospect for DOC.

Jake didn't want to re-sign here.

False. Dubas didn't want to sign him. Which was the right decision, despite the piss poor trade return he got.

DOC is not a killer here at 925K. Also he can be an effective 3rd line guy with a coach who isn't benching players for not playing his "right' way. He won't bring back anything anyway. He is still young enough to be part of the rebuild. Sullivan goes after this year. He can be signed for a decent contract and still be better down the road.
