I really like McGroarty but it's a no brainer to make the swap if you can pull it off.

Jiricek is a potential #1D, someone with his size and offensive ability could be a downright gamechanger on the defense. IMO the Jackets have grossly mismanaged him and it's a crime that he's even available.



It would objectively be hilarious, but it's also a deal that would be a no brainer for the Penguins to make. McGroarty is good but Jiricek is simply a special prospect.

I don’t disagree. Big fan of McGroaty, and think this is a developmental year for him.

But Jiricek would be the most talented young player we have had in some time.

Why are we considering Jiricek? He’s already 20 which means he’ll be 36 when Sullivan is fired and 62 when Dubas’ leash for the rebuild is finally cut.

But in seriousness, if Columbus was willing to move him for a package centered around Rutger then I’m pretty sure Columbus would have gotten him over us as that’s way more attractive than Yager even with adding something.

From doing a bit more reading, it seems like the Jackets are super thin on goalie prospects while the Penguins are very deep in goalie prospects. McGroarty and Blomqvist for Jiricek would hurt for the Penguins to give up, but that opens up a spot for Murashov to get promoted to WBS and have him be the goalie of the future. Or maybe Columbus could just really like Murashov and it could be McGroarty and Murashov for Jiricek.

I would be really frustrated if we moved two of our three best prospects for a defenseman with skating issues in 2024.

A good starter (maybe... goaltenders are weird, after all) and a middle six wing with some intangibles. Nice but not irreplaceable by any means.

Jiricek isn't generational level but he's much closer to that tier than the other two IMO. You make that deal and be happy it came around I think. I understand not wanting to part with two of the only good prospects this team has but I always preference quality over quantity.

Rossi is probably talking out his rear, but you absolutely trade any prospect we have 1:1 for Jiricek. F***, maybe even any two of our prospects for Jiricek.

I think I ultimately wouldn't do Blomqvist but I would do Murashov. At the same time, I also think Murashov has insane upside and he can easily end up the better goalie.

It's a legitimate offer that the Penguins do have the depth to make. It would just be painful to make, which is what trading for a prospect of Jiricek's ability should be costing.

Adding Blomqvist to McGroarty is a lot for a player who is 20 and having issues translating to the NHL game due to skating.

I think he's a solid prospect and I'd do McG one for one, but adding more to it is where I pause and ask is this really the player to go all in for or is this just a player who had a great WJC and is suddenly avaiable becasue he can't translate to the NHL game.

Let's be honest Gudbranson, Severson, and now Fabbro are why he's not playing in the NHL. That isn't really a murder's row.

See I actually think Murashov is such an athletic freak that he can be even more than that. I think there's an argument that it's better off trading Blomqvist and his "safe and good starter" upside and keeping Murashov's "riskier but elite starter" upside.

If Mush didn't come over in a somewhat unforeseen move I'd be reluctant to dish Blom but as it stands I mean... whatever.

I'm not all that jazzed having this team's "top" prospects be goaltenders, anyway. It's a bit of a barbed compliment. Like saying "yeah well my mother thinks I'm handsome!" or something.
