Rutta was a good 3rd pairing D man. But pens had Ceci and cap space was not there to extend him. Maybe quit paying forwards big money and have a deeper D is more important. Dubas is stuck with no cap space some due to adding players to beef up the bottom 6. Carter is a killer contract so there is that. Last remaining crap move from Hextall will be gone so 18 million in cap space to get to top LW, RD and 4th line center assuming Poulin is not the guy for that. Move POJ, move Ruhwedel and that is 1.6 million to work with. If SJ can retain cap then it is doable.

What's evident game after game is that Dubas will have to target a net front presence player or two. I wonder what it would cost to get Corey Perry from the Hawks later this season at 50% retention

Nah. He made sense as a cheap signing years ago. Paying 2 million for him is yikes with our cap problem.

Nah. We’ve done the pay defense thing.

Honestly Ruh is the only big issue on our D right now. I’d move Shea up to play with Letang and build a 3rd pairing around Graves.

If you want a cup why would you sign in Canada?
I mean, he already won one when he signed there lol. I'd value money more than winning too, after already getting a cup.

Hopefully Ludvig gets another opportunity. One guy who can play physically, although probably won't be as physical as he can be because of the concussion.

Yes but apparently he doesn't wanna be part of a rebuild. He was probably hoping for a cup in Calgary.
I think if Calgary was atleast a playoff contender, he wouldn't want to get out of there. Also, doesn't seem like a fun place to play in offensively. Along with Huberdeau's decline there, just seems like it's miserable around that team.

I never feel sorry for pro athletes. They make so much money, deal with your shitty situation.

I know this is blasphemous but I really don’t mind Ruhwedel. Especially in a theoretical playoff series where he really is only playing a few shifts a period plus PK.

More concerned with Graves ability to hold up against top players and lines right now. I’d be picking up Zadorov to play with Letang.
Yeah because he is Better

By the time TD comes around, it will be a lot less of a cap hit than 2 million.

Calgary are going to be gutted by free agents moving on, why are they trading one of their good players with term (even if it's not much) unless they get to overcharge painfully?

If they decide to rebuild, they will need to move them to acquire assets and also I doubt most of those core veteran players would want to stick around assuming they go that route

When I look at the penguins defense I see Letang and karlsson similar to 2007 Anaheim Ducks team that had an older Scott niedermeyer and Chris pronger. I think part of Graves problem is that he’s being asked to play top 2 defensive minutes like Letang and Karlsson and isn’t used to that. It would be nice if we could find a “5th” defenseman that can rotate in with Letang or karlsson to keep Petterson and Graves fresh.

Graves is not an issue like dumo was. He is shooting the puck and can play well with Letang. Shea is well liked and POJ is being given his hat. Ruwedel is not the player he was 2 years ago. Is he killing them, No but no question Pens need to upgrade there. Dubas wants to be active but the right deal has to be there.
