A Sheary or (prime) Hagelin type tweener is exactly what the team is missing
Honestly, they need a finisher, when afforded the opportunity they need to hit the back of the net. THAT is what this team lacks in. If we had better finishing we'd be 10-3 instead of 7-6.

Dubas was a part of lots of cap/Ltir shenanigans during his time in Toronto. Hope he tells Carter you're not playing another game here so waive the NMC or go on LTIR. Having 3m open up would be a godsend
You have to have a documented injury though. You can't just put someone on LTIR without a couple checks and balances. I know there are loopholes but still.

I’d have to imagine that being a soon to be 39 year old hockey player that he has some bumps and bruises and some things that probably will require surgery whenever he retires… similar to people using up sick leave before they retire why not get the surgery while he’s still getting paid?

I suspect that from Dubas' point of view, he'd rather use a semi-legit injury and hold a guy from the deadline until the playoffs rather than push Carter out right now. Certainly if he was happy to simply go "Jeff, you're not playing here, LTIR or waive a trade clause or what", I think it would have happened before the season happened.

With a guy as old as Carter, there's probably a bunch of issues he could be LTIRed with.

I'm bringing this post in from the PGT. But the more I see from Hinostroza, the more I don't think the Penguins need to make any additions to their bottom-6 unless there are injuries.

I think Zohorna-Eller-Hinostroza would be a legitimately good 3rd line if they wanted to run with it, but I'm happy with the lines as they are. Hinostroza is driving play on the 4th line with his speed and Zohorna and Eller have been dominant as a duo. The only guy in the bottom-6 I may want to upgrade on is Nieto, but he's also not really doing anything problematic right now.

I'm a bit concerned about their depth beyond their current bottom-6 forwards, the next guys up are Carter (old and sucks), Poulin (injured and not lighting the world on fire in the AHL) and Harkins (was awful in the NHL). But I really like the group they have with their currently healthy bottom-6 guys, and I am beginning to think they don't need any notable additions to that group. They should be focusing on improving the bottom pair.

I've been happy with Shea, but I think games like the Jackets game show that you can't really rely on him in an everyday role.
