On pace for a +37 vs top competition. I can live with that kind of stupidity.

Plus/minus? Cmon man, I know you're much smarter than this. Does plus/minus account for a bad clear that results in a high danger chance against? What about his shoddy work on the PK and drifting out of position?

I don't have much time to rewatch games anymore so I'll typically focus on newcomers or guys I don't know much about. Graves fell into that category for me. In the ~3 games I've put him under my microscope he's made a ton of what I call "exit errors". That includes attempted clears or skating out of danger. Don't get me wrong, he hasn't been all bad but he's made a ton of unforced and unnecessary errors.

Tanev would be a massive upgrade. But I imagine the cost would be 2nd round or more. Hes widely regarded around the league and rumors are both the Canucks and Leafs want him. Worry with him is injuries. He goes all out every shift and takes a beating.

Monahan I think would be a cheap middle 6 upgrade. Again the worry with him is he cant stay healthy. I dont think hed cost more than a 3rd or 2nd, unless he really explodes offensively and stays healthy until the deadline.

Tanev is a guy I would love to see here. He's a warrior and comes with the style of play we currently lack.

Agreed. I think the cost will be too great or he wont be healthy enough. He would be great to pair with someone like Smith on the bottom pairing.

Why are we trading Rakell according to Facebook?
The click-baity article basically said "due to his slow start, Dubas is asking around".

That plus Eklund, obviously (OBVIOUSLY) take it with a huge grain of salt. It was just something worth "what-if'ing"
Probably $6M unless he starts putting up points…

I'm really glad we didn't jettison him when he had that down year. More often than not, he's given us really solid performance. Hopefully, the cap goes up enough that we can squeeze a raise in there. He'll be 28. Karlsson will be here 2 years past that, Letang 3, Graves 4. Would be nice to get a 5yr deal but I imagine he will be pushing for a 7yr. But getting him until 35, assuming he stays healthy, isn't the worth thing.

Might depend a bit though on how well a guy like Pickering does to see if anyone becomes expendable.

This team should not be blowing all of the little cap space they have on a 3rd pairing RD. Jesus.

At the moment it is probably their biggest issue (outside of our goalies being fragile).
Our biggest issue could change in 1 month and throughout the season it could be different depending on the day/injuries/etc.

If the Pens find a miracle way to fit 4.5M cap hit it better be for a top/middle 6 F. Injuries to a D could change that.

Wonder if the writing is well and truly on the wall for Carter now and he's just using his vet pass to no-show practices? I'm not really complaining... it's fine. Though I have to wonder how the team will cope without his well-honed leadership skills that I've heard so much about throughout the last several years.

If you could trade Rakell and the rest of his contract for a 2nd and sign this guy at the same price or less for one season, would you do it?

10 years ago, maybe. Today, it makes zero sense to move Rakell with Kane being the replacement.

If Kane wants to sign to league min to be on the 3rd line...I would entertain it, I guess.

Nope. Yeah Rakell isn't producing but Malkin/Smith are and the line overall looks great, The points will come. At this point I am fine with the top 6, the pens need to add a bottom 6 forward and a bottom pairing RHD.

10 years ago he wouldn’t be available or a Rakell replacement…hard times lol…I still think if you work him out, he’s still probably better at scoring than this year’s version of Rakell, particularly if Sid and Sullivan refuse to give him a shot on Sid’s line
