A Canes' poster on the trade board mentioned that the Canes minor league situation is less than ideal, and that was why Morrow had not signed.

But yes, definately some conditions should be in place to protect the Pens in the trade. Maybe a substitute prospect, the Canes next best on the list, or their next first, if Morrow goes UFA.

I don’t travel out of country nearly that much, but I have one kid who just started university and another who is a really good basketball player, so between helping one start a new life and travelling all over the country for the other, hockey is just a distant 99th on my radar now. I figure I won’t even check in once geno and Sid check out.
As long as you are doing what you love.

On our deathbeds we will not be talking about a couch that we bought or some post where we said something clever on the Pens forum. We will remember experiences with the ones we love.

As someone who I view as a rational poster. I ask you. Because I'm one who does want the core to ride it out. (yes, because they deserve it. because they didn't **** their pants every year like the Sharks core or others). I feel trading Jake is.. just so counter productive. He's literally the best winger Sid has ever had/will have. How do we compete next year with this huge hole? Say we get Bunting, prospect, pick, whatever. As long as the big 4 are here, we are going to *try* to win. You can argue if thats a good plan or not, it doesn't matter. There is going to be an attempt to win with them still here. Now minus Jake, idk where we go. I was for shopping Raks, Eller, Acciari, Smith, Ned. (even though I wish it was Jars). And I get it, maybe Jake doesn't want to re-sign here. We will never know. We do know what athletes like, and if you offer him a competitive deal I'm sure he would have signed. I guess I'm asking. What do you see as the plan if we are trying to win next year? How do we replace 59's production, when IMO we need MORE guys like him.. as of course sid and geno get older. We need MORE top end talent, not less.
I agree with you. Trading Jake was counterproductive. They will never get another player to do what he could do.

It’s especially concerning when you have a coach who has failed as much as ours as for the past 6 years and they could have tried a new one of those first. Seems like that would have been an easier change than an elite winger.

But since sully found the immunity idol, i understand the thought process. We need fresh legs and assets. We are getting at least one of those things in this deal.

Is it equal value? No. You never get equal or better value when moving a legit star. But it’s good value and I don’t think Dubas looks like a loser after this.

Like jaded and I have said all afternoon: it’s a shitty situation. Dubas could do everything right and there’s still a 90% chance it’s not enough. We’re old and outta time and assets. Not much hope. Rather watch Jake for the next. 3 years for sure. But they gotta go through the motions of trying.

If the deal is Morrow and Bunting and a nice pick that is very good for a rental. I suspect if he is a rental it is a second. If he extends a first. But Smith can still be moved and even a second with 4 million per off the books gives Dubas some nice cap flexibility.
FA LW Sid Rakell
Bunting Geno Rust
DOC Eller ?
? Poulin Acciari
p***ytinen, and a couple others compete for those spots.
