Any chance Carter waives? Granted nobody in their right minds would want him, but their always some stupid meat spanker who want moar huuuuur duuuuuurrrrr muh experience.

I'm sure it was exaggerated but the reporting that this team preemptively went to Rust and basically said "Worry not, beloved son, we would never ask you to waive" is just so f***ing embarrassing to read.

Koivunen also played with Topi Niemela who was a Leafs pick for a while. Dubas knows this player well and has likely seen him with his own eyeballs multiple times.

Idk if that matters, but it’s information.
It doesn’t matter because it looks like Dubas sucks at player assessment, not to mention coach assessment lol

Yeah I don't think it's worthwhile trading Carter, you'd get nothing for him and have to waste a retention slot. Save that last retention slot for Smith if you want to use it IMO.

Pens need to stop retaining on players though. It's a waste to retain on garbage

I'd care a lot more if this team was contending, but they're not. Really, who cares?

The Guentzel trade combined with their performances in 3 of the last 4 games just showed me this team is entirely dead. They need to go full rebuild and focus on maximizing assets.

Idk I've always liked Bunting. Even if he's not what he was with Matthews and Marner, I think a 20 goal, 50 point guy with snarl is a nice piece to have in the top-6.

He hasn't been a fit with Carolina but he's still on pace for 18 goals and 49 points there.

Bunting can be a shift disturber at least. Something we do need.

Smith needs to be dealt. Pens can eat a million here which covers the cash for this year and 4 million hit next year to get a 2nd round and maybe more. Pens can draft a good RD this year and I screw the Canes with a run at Burrows the RD next August. Hello Redwings as they need to bolster the group to keep in the wild card hunt.

Retention on Jake expires this summer as would retention on Carter/Ned etc. they’ll still have one slot next season if they retain on Smith or Eller. And then they’d have all 3 again Summer 2025.

Agree it’s kinda pointless on Carter to get a 7th but also harmless if there’s no takers on anyone else.

Puusti and Koppanen sent down?
It’s so they can play in the AHL playoffs

You're definitely gonna have to eat 50% of EK's cap hit when he's dealt. Not even for a good return, likely just to get anyone interested enough. You have, what, two more slots? Rust seems wholly off the table to be moved, let alone retained salary on, which is laughable. Rakell? Probably not worth the difference from like a 3rd to a 2nd rounder. Maybe one of Geno or Letang ask out? Smith has... Two (?) years left?

I think I'd be trying to retain half on Smith to try to maximize the return they can get for him. At $2.5 million, I figure the interest would be notable.

That would leave them 1 retention spot for next year and then all 3 for the year after.

I will say this now & feel free to bookmark this. I can’t believe I am typing this, but after the way this season has played out, this trade of Jake, and the outlook for the short future. Also along with a lot of his comments & body language… for the first time ever I can legitimately see Sid signing elsewhere on his next deal.

I can’t believe this is what the team and franchise has devolved into but here we are. This is a franchise who has basically chose a coach over one of the games greatest players. Unreal times we are living in.

Wrong.

He's signing an extension on July 1st, according to anyone who has talked about it.

If Sid doesn’t sign July 1, we should be trading him. Probably for the best to be honest. We’ll be terrible sooner and we’ll get some more assets, hopefully better than Jake but then Dubas is at the helm so who knows…if there’s a way to botch that trade, he will

I expect them to either dump Smith with no retention for a 4th -5th or try to get haul at 50%. I feel like it makes no sense to retain for like a 3rd. Would rather wait for next TDL at that point.
