Woah dude. Don't be freaking out. Empo is worried about my cholesterol. No need to go on a hissy fit about Tanev.

He's on par with Rakell. Slightly higher career goal per game average (which he maintains in the playoffs), slightly lower assists per game average. Regardless, do we need another inconsistent, streaky winger?

To me, it's less about the player and more about the term it would take. I have no problems with them targeting another middle-6 type of guy to plug onto Crosby's line, but I'd ratehr trade like a 3rd for this year's version of Smith (meaning a short term deal) than give DeBrusk a 6 year, $5 million deal in UFA.

I’d rather keep Reilly Smith then sign DeBrusk..

Smith will be motivated in a contract year.

How about door No. 3?

- Trade Smith for futures

- do not overpay for a UFA top-six forward not named Stamkos

I think you can get better futures for Smith by holding onto him until the deadline.

That's why I'm all for the Mangiapane idea. Trade something low for him now, hope he has a big year and then sell him at the deadline for presumably more than you paid for him.

Addison ended up a complete bust at the NHL level, the Zucker trade stunk but it turned out the Wild didn't really get much out of it in the end. The guy they took with the Penguins 1st (Carson Lambos) has fallen off big-time as a prospect and looks like a bottom pair guy at best.

You can reasonably argue the Penguins got more value out of Zucker than Minnesota got out of Addison and the 1st, which is wild considering how much of a dud Zucker was in most of his time with the Penguins.

Yeah. I think the Zucker trade can best be summed up as "utterly inconsequential" to both sides.

Speaking of... there is a lame move I'd almost half expect the Penguins to make this offseason.

You could also argue that the Penguins utilized what little assets they had on a top six winger who did nothing for them outside of one year.

But, let's say the Penguins got more value.

Yeah calling that trade a "lose-lose" would be pretty accurate. Just a dud on both sides.

Could easily see Zucker coming back this summer, my bro.

It would certainly be in this team's unimaginative, boring, ineffectual wheelhouse that's for sure.

You can practically hear Yohe and co. prancing around crowing about what a "steal" Jason Zucker at 3M a year for four years with trade clauses AKSHULLY is.
