It’s funny how little this board pays attention to other teams.

Calgary has no goaltending prospects.

Caps are expecting Wilson and PLD to lead them.

Jesus.

Never said anything about Calgary goaltending prospects. And the PLD\Wilson thing was kind of a joke. But honestly tell me what do the caps have that make them special. There best prospects aren't elite.

Both Calgary and the Caps are going to go splat just like the Penguins.

Calgary is doing the right things now a few season too late.
The caps are treading water until Ovi retires then will tank.

I just don't like TJ. I don't like his attitude. I don't like him staring daggers at his teammates when they tip pucks in on him when he's mediocre and has never won shit here. Not even a playoff series. Dude acts like his own shit doesn't stink.

Call me crazy but even though Ned didn't outperform on the ice Ned still seems like a goalie that the team is much happier to go to war for personality-wise.

One thing I always loved about Maf is he had a good attitude and he never put the blame on his teammates for his own struggles. I always admired that about him.

Brooks Orpik used to rub me the wrong way for the same reasons TJ does. Orpik would just rip everyone but himself when the team struggled and it's like dude you're an overpaid physical defenseman who also broke our captains jaw at one point, f*** right off.

Yeah, I hated MAF, but it’s obvious that dude is one of the best locker room vibes in the league.

The Caps have McMichael, Lapierre and Marchenko all coming up. Lapierre is currently leading the AHL in playoff production.

They have 5 2nds in the next two years.

They have plenty of solid young pieces in the NHL now.

Adding PLD if he figures it out is a great move. Honestly, I would love if our GMs were smart enough to run this team like the Caps have been since their cup.

And if he doesnt he is an 8.5 mill dollar anchor. And most of those guys are most likely complimentary pieces.

The little difference between the pen and caps is whatever. Both will take for a top 5 pick in a couple years and be irrelevant until then.

Look at a team like the Blackhawks. They tank hard for like 2 years and will be relevant again before the caps. Few teams actually retool and get better. Most end up crashing before getting better. I could care less about the moves the Caps make TBH But I am glad they got PLD at full price instead of us.

We just gave up a 1st and a 2nd for a 33 year old 60 pt defenseman.

We gave up a 1st and 2nd for a 100pt defensive man that our coach turned into a 60 pt defenseman lol

Also the caps just gave up a first for a 20pt defenseman??? He is 24 but Sandin is meh. That 1rst become Easton Cowen for Toronto too.

Eh, I don't think the Pens and Caps are operating much differently. Both teams are locked in until their franchise legend decides to retire. Both teams are hovering around a WC spot with no hope of making a deep run if they manage to eek into the playoffs. Both teams are staring down an ugly decade of irrelevance.

I mean, it just seems funny that we are throwing stones at the Caps when they have sold more than us, amassed futures better than us and made the playoffs last year while we don’t have a 1st and missed the playoffs and still have a bunch of horrible contracts of our own plus are stuck in hell.

Ya I really dont see a difference in the outcomes. Maybe slightly different processes but both will enter into an ugly stretch.

Caps have tons of contracts coming off the books within the next three years and have multiple prospects in the vein of Yager.

Meh less about throwing stones and more about not getting why people are praising this move for the caps like it is some amazing deal.

At the end of three years the penguins will have more cap space than the capitals.

I just don't get this argument that the caps are run so much better. The Wilson contract was awful at day one and PLD has the potential to be just as bad and those are the longest contracts.

Yeah, maybe they navigate the impending rebuild a year or two quicker than the Pens do, but they're still not in a good spot. I'm pretty high on Yager but realize he's not a building block. He's a supporting cast kinda guy. Neither team has a foundation piece to begin building around. /shrug

I wish this team would sell more, I've been bitching about it for a long time. I just don't see much of a difference between the two franchises. A lot more similarities imo.

I’m sure Jarry would play better away from this team, but we are probably not gonna allow that to happen.
I was encouraged by Sully telling Jars to f*** himself on the bench in the last couple weeks of the regular season, even with meaningful games on the schedule. Probably Sullivan's brightest coaching of the season other than perhaps not totally f***ing DOC up.

I think you are going to be shocked by how quickly Washington is back in contention.

Ryan Leonard is an absolute stud. They also have a ton of picks.

Yeah, and in three years we likely have no players ready to take the mantle.

Capitals have a solid nucleus of forwards in Strome, Miroshnichenko, Cristall, PLD, Lapierre, McMichael, and Leonard that will be either hitting their prime or still in their late 20s or just in their early 30s.

Not hard to view if you know anything about their prospect system versus ours.

We will have Rust, Rakell, Letang and Graves all eating up space and in their mid 30s or later.

We'll see I guess. The last sentence is the only thing I'm jealous of when it comes to the Caps.

But we have to watch this team embarrass themselves as they shamelessly throw themselves prostrate at Bryan Rust's feet, promising never to ask him to waive.

The Caps have had the same problem as the Pens since their Cup; winning a round.

Sadly, they've STILL won a round more recently since the Pens.

Must not have seen Leonard play this year.

That kid is special. He's Tom Wilson, but with actual skill. He's going to be a nightmare.

They do have that problem. And they've admitted it. They've fired multiple coaches, they've traded multiple big time core players, and they've focused on shrewd youth signings like Strome, Milano, etc.

You expect the team to just go out all willy nilly and find another Mike Sullivan?

Yeah, that's why I think we have no hope.

It's insanity that we are running in back next year with Sullivan + adding an absolute loser like Quinn. I'd honestly prefer Reirden over Quinn...

If Kyle Dubas makes some huge moves then maybe I'll feel otherwise, but it seems like he's perfectly content to do jackshit. It's honestly embarassing and in someways I get the feeling Sid may just say f*** it and walk.

This is the first time since the end of the Bylsma era that I am just meh about the team.

Zero excitement at the moment.

Nah, I have no idea who Leonard is. I barely care enough to keep up with who this team's ratf***ed prospects are after like the top-3. Can't be bothered caring about some other team's prospect pool outside of cursory searches once the Pens are linked to a team in a trade.

I expect this team to do the wrong thing at any given moment, fwiw. They're gonna extend the rebuilding years by like half a decade because of their refusal to part with guys when it's time. They should've dealt Zucker and Dumo the TDL before they hit FA. They should've traded Rust for a haul before he got re-signed. The only reason they dealt Jake is because he refused to entertain an extension with anyone and was deadset on hitting FA--so he did them a favor and saved them from themselves. Although I'd rather Dubas had gotten a buncha lotto picks as opposed to meh prospects and a roster filler in Bunting. But I'm sick and tired of bitching about that so I'll just leave it there.

It's so f***ing stupid.

I can not believe we traded Jake Guentzel to what amounts to a 2nd and Michael Bunting. It's absurd.

Especially if you are going to turn around and do jack shit to make this team competitive this year.

If he makes a bunch of big moves to try and compete, I'll get it... but it seems like he's just going to keep cap space open and let Sid and Malkin float around with shit.

The playoffs aren't even over yet. I'd like to at least see the draft and July 1st play out before I get a sense of Dubas' plans.

Based on what he did last year I don't have high hopes though. The Karlsson move was cool but he bungled almost everything else.
