There you have it. I think sans Carter that's Sully's offense and defense.

DOC, Big Z, and Caggs are the biggest camp Battle for #13 and I don't know if I've ever been more intrigued by a battle for that spot like I am currently.
Pretty much. Heinen's missing. Seems like he was the sacrifice to get someone else a look that they're unsure about still.
I'm most relieved to see Sully still taking Z seriously at this stage, which I did not expect.
Caggiula being ahead of Archy is nice. He's outplayed him to this point, so justice is served.

Reality's starting to hit with Puustinen, Poulin, Nylander etc...
They're screwed, barring more injuries.

I don't think they are screwed. And I think mentioning Nylander there is foolish.

Poulin and Puustinen should get another year in the AHL. If one of them takes off we will find a spot for them via injury. Same thing we did with Jake, Sprong, Simon and Blueger in recent years. Insulate them so they develop nicely.

Screwed for October obviously...

Don't really get what you mean with Nylander. Didn't he have like the best point rate on the team after coming over?

Ideally for me...Big Z is #13
Caggs makes it to the A and is a callup
DOC get top minutes down there til his callup
Poulin and Puus get a cup of coffee when top 6 guys go on the shelf.

It's pretty simple hopefully works out that way

I think it's possibly a little hopeful to say Heinen is just a sacrifice to get someone else a look and Archibald isn't - wouldn't be at all surprised to learn he's just safe here.

Well Archibald was pretty garbage yesterday, including on the PK...which is a big reason why he's here in the first place.
So hopefully that's not the case.

Yep. That gives you Z and Poehling as players to get us through the season with some NHL time. If they are busts we can walk if not we get some cheap depth.

I don't particularly disagree with you but it is pretty plausible this is what's happening.

... also, just to be devil's advocate, I'd hope the org isn't in the habit of changing their minds on players based on one pre-season game and a few days of camp. Even when I'd like them to do so.

Did Simon really turn heads at camp last year to warrant a roster spot? I won’t feel comfortable until I see Arch is moved to the AHL that his dumbass won’t be around all year.

So off day today. Game tomorrow, then practice is cut down from three teams to two going forward.

I'd assume we see a very green squad again in Detroit, with cuts of players who aren't under consideration for the big squad coming immediately after.

That'd be off-putting if we lose tomrorow with this lineup.

Pretty clear tell that Archibald has fallen behind in the pecking order. You love to see it.
Aaaaand never mind. That's a plausible opening day lineup, minus Carter who's hurt.

Heinen, POJ, Friedman, Ruhwedel and Archibald left off.

Smith’s biggest issue is at his position and size he needs to have a lot more escapability than he currently does.

End of the day though- a D like him will not have a long career if he can’t put points up.

62nd in the league in terms of PPG for defensemen that played 100 games in the last two years.

I'm curious what this board thinks about Drysdale if Smith is such a terrible defensemen.

He's also 4 points off what Matheson put up in PIT in fewer game.

A smallish D w/o elite feet needs to put up points. All I said.

Do you find ways to argue with brick walls?
