Essentially impossible without video game trades, but if GMRH pulled off Miller and Chychrun that would be hilarious. And really piss off Boston and Carolina. Then the team gets to burn down in 2026.

If Vancouver had to retain on Miller how long would that run for them?

Approximately "heat death of the universe?"

I just found out JT Miller had 99 points last year. How about that. The good news is he's about to be 30, so based on norms, it's all down hill from here.

Miller seems doable this year given his 8 mil doesnt kick in til next year. So moving out enough salary to make it work this year isnt a colossal ask.

No idea how they fit in the 8 mil long term though

On 22 June 2012, Višňovský was traded to the New York Islanders for a second round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Shortly thereafter, Višňovský filed a grievance through the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) seeking to void the trade, claiming that the no-trade clause in his original contract with Los Angeles was still valid, since he never revoked it when Edmonton traded him to Anaheim.[7] An arbitrator ruled against Višňovský in this case and the trade was upheld

Looks like they did patch it up later but it was definitely a thing for a while.

The more I think about it, the more I'm totally fine with just adding Miller at the deadline and then completely redo the bottom-6 in the off-season. This year is a lost cause, there's really no point in trying to contend this year. Adding Miller would basically cement the Penguins top-6 for the foreseeable future and would allow the Penguins to just focus on fixing the bottom-6. If you include McGinn in the deal, the only bottom-6 player under contract for next year would be Carter. It gives Hextall a clean slate to attempt to rebuild the bottom-6.

If you run with O'Connor-Poehling-Carter as the 4th line next year, you'd have probably around $13 million to add a starting goalie and a full 3rd line with this lineup:

Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Miller-Malkin-Rust
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
O'Connor-Poehling-Carter
Hallander

Pettersson-Letang
POJ-Petry
Smith-Rutta
Friedman-Ruhwedel

XXXXXX-DeSmith

The bigger concern: how are you paying Guentzel after next year once he is eligible for free agency?

Miller seems doable this year given his 8 mil doesnt kick in til next year. So moving out enough salary to make it work this year isnt a colossal ask.

It's actually not all that difficult if you move McGinn in the deal.

They could put Hextall in a dunk tank before home games. They'd rack up $8 mill in like 2 days. Uncle Gary will let us put it towards the cap for reasons.

I believe it is up to the team but that may have been removed on the last cBA

Miller is signed forever and I don't know how well the deal would age but I'm still fine with adding him. f*** it. If he sucks in 3-4 years oh no, who cares, we will be dreadful by then anyways.

Only thing I want Hextall to be careful about is not moving firsts a few years out into the future. Anything 2024 or sooner should be an acceptable asset to move.

If it costs a 1st to acquire Miller, it’s a bad trade.

Why? You're probably not getting someone as good as Miller for just the cost of a 1st round pick.

This seems like another Boeser type of situation where you're getting a good asset for cheap prices if it just costs a 1st for Miller.

If it’s Miller at 50, I’d pay a 1st because then we can retain 50 in a few years.

Because he has an albatross contract and they want to move him. If we want him just wait until the off-season and you’ll be able to get him much cheaper.

Miller got signed off of the 99 point season right? His reported issues aside it sounds like and awful move. We don’t need more bad contracts.

I don't love Miller's age versus the contract. I also don't like that there have been grumblings for a while about his attitude. And I don't particularly think he addresses current team issues. But in all other ways he's a legit player.

My only concern besides the above, as always, will be how he is actually utilized, here. Miller must be top six and he must be on the top powerplay or you are simply not going to get full value from him. If they just stick him at 3C and don't work him into PP1 then it's a bit pointless to go whole-hog like that IMO.

How does he have an albatross contract? He's paid pretty fairly for being a PPG winger.

Well, he's not getting Bryan Rust out of the top 6 or PP1....so.

Retention certainly makes the idea of a first an easier sell for me that's for sure
