Let's get this straight.
Anyone that the Pens draft this year will almost certainly not play until Crosby and Malkin are gone.
So trading expiring contracts that will be gone this off-season and other dead wood, and replacing them with call ups, will not impact that crash and burn rebuild that is coming. It will simply hopefully add some complimentary players to shorten said rebuild.
Agree. I've never pretended that the assets landed for Zucker and Dumo would come in and help right away unless the team uses them to package for immediate help via trade. I just also do not believe or agree with the premise that moving those two guys who are walking this summer, or should 100% be allowed to, does anything to dramatically alter this team currently or in the near-future. Dumo's stabilized, but I still don't trust him enough to hold on to him at all costs, let alone re-sign him. Zucker's been healthy and plays with a lot of heart, but is the 4th highest scoring winger on the team. /shrug
Like you said. It's not about throwing in the towel on a season that's already pretty much lost, or whatever. It's about potentially adding some pieces to a roster down the line that, when coupled with the big picks this team will start landing once Sid's gone in a couple years, hopefully combine to make a roster capable of clawing its way back to relevance.
He’s slow…we need someone with more foot speed given how much slower we are than the top six Eastern contenders…and we just got even slower trading Kap
I'm not saying I want Bonino. I'm saying he seems like a Hextall TDL move because he'll probably be dirt cheap, is cooked but still better than Carter or Blueger so it's technically an upgrade (but not by much), and fills that "PKer, leadership" niche that GMs and coaches go bonkers over.
This team needs good players. I don't really care how big, small, slow or fast they are. I don't want Bonino, but I could see this team wanting Bonino.
