adding Chychrun and a bottom6 forward from arizona could actually help us be somewhat competitive. what does this idiot gm think he can do? half of the eastern conference is seriously loading up while he’s out here cuddled up under his desk. f***ing sell or be an aggressive buyer. there’s no in between with this team right now.

Age has nothing to do with it. We're talking about playoff runs the next couple years, and I'd take the Pens core over the Leafs core over that period.

What playoff runs?

I get it, a lot of people get used to almost 17 years of buying and trading assets for being SC contenders and are now in denial.

well that’s a real bummer. i really hate hextall.
Okay what's your reasoning for hating him? Don't get me wrong there's probably several reasons to choose from, but what in particular?

The thing is, nothing is really being leaked, I think it will be a out of nowhere trade. I don't believe any of those who've said rumors are even credible than just trying to get clicks.
Yeah, I'm sure Hextall is talking to various teams. He's not one to tip his hand. But make no mistake I'm sure he's efforting to make a pretty sizable move. Again something that I don't think should be done. I would sell especially with what the market is showing us over the last few days. But I
would go in a different direction.

Oh look at that. Another big piece we could use and we're once again not rumored to be one of the front runners.
Nobody knows how Arizona values the Pens' abysmal prospects, and if they want 1sts from this team, they're probably gonna ask for 2025 and 2026 1st rounders because by then, this team's gonna be finishing in the bottom-5 of the league.

I like Chychrun, I do. I think this team, with where they're at presently, would be making a mistake by throwing every single available valuable asset at landing two years of Chychrun. I don't see the team being in a spot to keep him around at a colossal price in 2025-26, and I don't see him wanting to be a part of a probable 5-10 year rebuild.

You know, you might actually be happy with what he does here. I think it's going to be a fairly sizable move. I hope I'm wrong, I want to be wrong but I suspect there's going to be a pretty big splash by the sleepy one.

At least BOS will face the TOR/TBL winner, only one team can come out of that, if Pens get 1st WC and somehow beat CAR, then would face winner of NYR/NJD. Maybe PIT and Jarry get hot at the right time and can go on a run.
That would require Jarry to not get injured.

I feel like many fans will be angry no matter what, and I enjoy that.

Hextall does know he has no shot at surviving this job if we miss the playoffs. Don't know if that plays in. He has made a lot of money as a player and executive. Money power napping

the fact that he continues to insist that we are going to be competitive with this core and hasn’t done an ounce of work and made ZERO additions to make the team better. Either sell or go all in.

Pagnotta's not Seravalli or Lebrun, but he's also not Eklund. He's involved, but he may not be so well connected he's breaking stories. /shrug

There was another report re: Chychrun and the Pens in the past 24 hours that said something to the effect of "Hextall and the Pens are keeping an eye on the player but feel like prices are still way too high" or something like that.

This team's probably not getting Chychrun, and if a bidding war starts as time winds down to the deadline, I'll be glad if/when they aren't the ones trading a haul for the guy.

Well he did get RR last year's deadline, I thought that was a nice addition. And considering the fact we resigned him for only giving up a second round pick was a very astute move in my opinion. I suspect the next movie we make or at least a move before the deadline will be a little bit more sizable than that one. I just hope that doesn't happen.

It always makes me giggle when I see that word.

I want to return to an earlier comment that the best trade the Penguins can make is Carter for Poehling. Carter is the guy wrecking the bottom 6. Maybe it would be below average without him but he is the "worst in the league" factor.

I say we keep our picks, try to trade Jason Zucker and Brian dumoulin. I'd be thrilled if that's all we did. We could call up Ty Smith, and I think our Blue Line would be just as functional as it is currently. And we'd have two to three assets to show for it. I also think it wouldn't necessarily compromise our chances of making the playoffs. But if we didn't then we'd Garner a higher draft pick. And we could potentially reload in the summer.

On one hand, we should just be selling

On the other hand, it really sucks to get curbstomped in these trade costs lol
I think people see the word sell and think it means throwing in the towel and tanking. You sell high on two guys who don't make or break this team's chances and don't make a bit of sense to re-sign like Zucker and Dumo, you land some pretty nice assets imo that help in flipping for immediate help or stocking up for the longer term.

Promote some WBS guys, move Smith up to NHL duty full time. What's really changed with this team's chances of making the playoffs or getting out of the 1st round? Barely anything, imo. Pruning expiring contracts that could return decent picks/prospects is not selling and going into tank mode. /shrug

Demote or outright scratch Carter, bring up some WBS fodder to see what you've got. That, coupled with Letang suddenly remembering how to play hockey, those are the best deadline moves.

Yeah I'm not saying we toss Geno to FLA

But some expiring contracts that won't be or shouldn't the future, yeah BYE

It's pretty cool that Kap is gone...that got us out of a whole year of pay

Not that this should be an overriding Factor to consider, but this is the dad's trip. Kind of be weird if you traded somebody's son over the next few days.
