Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

Pens tend to keep Canes games close for awhile before caving in the third period iirc.

...which is to say like 0-0 or 1-0 for two and 3/4 periods only for the Canes to make it a barnburner of a 2-1 or 3-1 game at the last second with Jordan Staal scoring at least one off his helmet or something.

This team hasn't beaten Carolina since like the Clinton administration.

They have no answer for their vaunted "bore them into submission" strategy.

This is from RW’s blog lol:

“The Carolina Hurricanes have owned the Penguins lately. In the past three seasons the Penguins have gone 1-7 against them with three coming in overtime losses. It hasn’t been a good matchup. The game against Carolina a month ago the Penguins only had a CF% of 44.76 and an xGF% of 41.35. During this 1-7 stretch the CF% is 42.61 and xGF% 42.34. Not great.”

Yeah but this time using the same stale tactics against the same team will work. Just wait and see! If not against the Canes, then maybe against the Devils. Or the Rags. Or the Isles. One of these days, possibly even before the end of the season. If we are lucky.

I love that people get so stirred when Andy literally just posts like... statistics.

Sorry this team blows, ya'll. Dunno what to tell ya.
"This team seems to struggle against certain teams"

You mean teams that play with structure.

"But then they'll look awesome against other certain teams"

You mean teams that lack structure and like to freewheel.

It's, like, a trend or something that I can't quite put my finger on.

Andy was wrong. The penguins got out chanced and outshot all game, but won a skill competition.
The Pens pulled a Caps lol….I don’t know how they won when the speed difference was so noticeable…we really looked old and slow out there against CAR…at least the Caps have incorporated a few younger better players out there than we have

Carolina is an old team too.

Another big game tonight against the Isles…last season we ended Christmas break against the Isles and no showed lol, losing 5-1….we were 0-3-1 against the Isles last season…we’re worse this season if even possible…not expecting much but I won’t be able to watch it as I’m traveling…

Sportsnet’s (not so) Bold Predictions for 2024 lol…

Yes, the Flyers make the playoffs. And when Pittsburgh doesn’t …

The Keystone State will very much be part of the 2024 hockey conversation.

The Philadelphia Flyers — supposedly in the midst of a ground-up rebuild — will not only hang onto an Eastern Conference playoff spot, but they'll give a division winner all it can handle in the first round. And the accelerated timeline is just fine for Philly because it sort of drafted the equivalent of a first-overall talent last June when Matvei Mitchkov fell to the Flyers at No. 7. It’s the best of both worlds for GM Daniel Brière and Co.

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Penguins will fall short of the post-season for the second straight spring, kicking off all kinds of hand-wringing about the team’s future. With no reason to believe things will be much better in 2024-25, we’ll hear the first whispers about whether the club and its crew of mid-30s players — including Sidney Crosby — need to sit down and have a heart-to-heart about how everyone sees the next few years playing out.

Also, Graves needs to sit…

I’m not going to defend any player in that clip, but it’s laughable Dan Shirley thinks he can just know what a guy is thinking. It’s just as plausible he put his head up to see where he had support, he did pass it back Graves after looking up and seeing him.

Also possible Graves saw the situation and called for it and Rakell snapped his head up to make sure it was actually a teammate yelling before passing it.

Dan Shirley seems to be headed down the typical Penguins beat writer path of self importance before quality work.

Regardless of what people were thinking in that clip, Graves should sit…he’s been awful lol

Great summer by Dubas. None of his signings are a positive. LOL.

Can't believe Hextall did this to our team!
