Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

As opposed to how good Sullivan's looked outside of the Cups?
Berube's teams have been far more inconsistent in the regular season throughout the course of his coaching career.

Last year was the first time that Sullivan's Penguins have stumbled. The Blues have been hot and cold every other year.

The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up a much needed two points Tuesday night. They aren’t making a coaching change, but GM Kyle Dubas is looking around the League for help at both ends of the ice. They’d like to upgrade their bottom-six and third-pair defensive pairing.

Fourth Period is pretty meh, but y'know.

Also, fire Sullivan and the rest of the assistants.

Last season was the first time the Penguins missed the playoffs, but you're being delusional if you think it's the first time they looked disorganized/inconsistent for large stretches of games.

I guess the POJ experiment isn't going to last much longer. Wouldn't be looking for an upgrade to the third pairing if they had faith in him.

Also we're constantly trying to "upgrade the bottom six". Why not upgrade the TOP six and bump one of the current wingers down to L3 so that we can have 3 scoring lines instead of insisting on two scoring, two defensive?

Max Jones for POJ is about the only realistic trade I can come up with there.

I don't think Shea-Ludvig is that bad though. You have to make sacrifices when you run Grave-Letang and Petts-Erik Karlsson as your top 4. There's a salary cap. And you have Shea, Ludvig, POJ, Rudwedel, Smith...heaven forbid you try a few combinations.

Bottom 6, 100% upgrade. Harkins should be in the AHL. Gruden is more of the 4th line plug that we don't need. DOC is passable but barely, honestly. With that, it's not like we have a ton of assets to pursue any meaningful players. You need a Daley-Scuds situation where a struggling guy that you bring in reboots. But then you have to fit that under a very tight cap unless Rust and Rakell are LONG LONG term IR. If Rust is out for the next 5 months, then sure go use his space. Weaponize it and trade POJ for a $4-5mil guy to a team that wants the cap relief.
