Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

Nothing significant in this, but it is a one-on-one with Tom Werner of FSG about ownership's vision. Committed to winning. I really don't think they want to have many years of rebuilding. If they need one or two to position the franchise long-term, fine, but they'll be aggressive otherwise.

Vensel: You mentioned Sidney Crosby. He will be a free agent in 2025. The team can offer him a contract extension this summer. It goes without saying the Penguins want him to retire in black and gold. Are you confident it will happen?

Werner: We have an enormous respect for Sid. And I have a very close, personal relationship with Pat. I probably speak to him at least once a week. I don’t want to say too much about the future. But it would be our fervent desire to have Sid retire as a Penguin.

Certainly sounds like another Pens' contract coming Sid's way.

That's up to Sid. Will he wanna continue at 38 y/o, having missed the playoffs 3 years in a row and not won a round in 7 years?

Pool juice fart is whatever, finally get to see Puustinen back for a game and they go and get a washed up prospect that is going to a team that destroys prospects like that, yeah sure, seems hopefully idiotic.

Don't think it really matters what they want. When Crosby retires this team is going into a hard tank and no amount of willingness to spend in free agency is going to pull them out of that.
Yeah this isn't like baseball where if you're willing to spend money you can fill your team needs via free agency relatively easily.

Hockey's much more about home-grown talent, with maybe a FA or two to put you over the top. But you can't really build a team entirely through free agency.

Vegas is an example of how you can build a team through assets and UFA tbh.

Pittsburgh is not Vegas tho.

Sid's never leaving. I mean, he might retire in a couple years when it's clear even to be most absurd optimist this team's nothing, but he absolutely won't ever play anywhere else. One of the biggest things we heard about him throughout his career is how much he admired Yzerman and the one team thing meant a lot to him.

Example of bucking a trend to start your own. We did it in 2016 with a hybrid grinder/skill/speed style.

Vegas saw the entire league going with 5'8" skaters who are fast. They filled a blueline with big 6+ footers and didn't give a crap whether one guy stayed or left. There always seems to be an overpriced guy out there to claim (Kessel....Eichel....errr EKarlsson??) - it's about how you fill the rest and what style you play.

Been saying for too long now we need to stop trying to buy speed in the market and go for a new hybrid style (my hill to die on has been 2010's King's hockey). But, alas, Sully has us chasing 2015/2016 like everyone is 25 again and we have Hornqvist out there raising hell and Ian Cole leading the league in blocked shots....and Jake/Bryan on ELCs.

I'm betting Sid will sign a 3-year deal. Malkin MAY resign for 2 extra but it's tough to say. 3 years would let retire with Letang at 39. A 21-year career is impressive. I can also see him playing well into his 40s if he wants. You just hope he goes the Bergy route and takes a $3mil deal or something like Malkin and Letang both did. $6.87mil or something like that. OR...$6.687mil as a nod to Mario. OR OR OR!!!! $6,687,158 would be about right.

Seems like that coach changing nonsense is working out for Edmonton.

That was not a guarantee, although it was a guarantee that their best players would be great… which is not as much of a sure thing here…. although it IS the only argument we have going for us, that they likely will.

Maybe we try betting on that too? Huh? Its even worked before for us. Twice. With Sid and Geno.

We should be changing the coach…not happening though…huge mistake

Mate you're resting your hat on a team that got dunked on hard a few times.

For the Pens if you take that game out, it's bad. For the canucks? They're +34 with a lot of players Sullivan ruined, resurrected.

Pens are f***ing trash. It's ok to admit it.
I wasn't talking about the Canucks, but the shitty teams ahead of the Pens.

It's ok, we won 3 cups we don't need to try for a 4th. Who cares we have won 1 playoff series since 2018 and failed to make the playoffs twice (counting the Habs series) and coming up to 3 times. Sullivan is loved, that's more important then the team and the teams accomplishments.
