I dunno, I doubt he'd be on the ice if it was a knee problem.
Depends how serious it is…if he tweaked something, he could still play..he played on a torn ACL, remember? He may have swelling and did a MRI but they can’t see anything that would keep him out…but he obviously has a problem thats causing him pain/discomfort

From Taylor…

Evgeni Malkin just stepped onto the ice about 25 minutes before practice began like he did yesterday. When he did this yesterday, it was a precursor to a maintenance day and he was in workout clothes. He's in full gear today, which seems good, but it's probably not a good thing that he's out here this early alone. There are two members of the training staff on the bench watching him.

I'm certainly no Dr, and this is a ton of presumption, but this is typical hockey body language: he's flexing his right knee, he's testing the edges on his right side and he attempts to stop with his right side.

Seems very obvious

No recalls yet. I wonder if they're going to go with 11 forwards and 7 defensemen tomorrow. They can't call anyone up without putting someone on LTIR. Nieto already is and Harkins is just on IR.

Do we get a participation trophy? It looks like we were trying hard against the Jets/Wild :ha:.

It's a bit perplexing the leash that has been given to the players, the coaching staff, and at this point, I'm even questioning Dubas.

Unless, it's already been decided internally that Jake goes and to keep the bidding high, they don't want to appear desperate?

I mean logically, even if you were to fire sale other pieces, you know Jake is the one with the highest return, so it you don't want to sell other cheap stuff only to cannibalize your main item's value.

Why not just put Harkins on LTIR. Even if he is stuck on it after getting healthy, not really losing much.

It's hilarious how many people were calling for Hextall's head and now the team is WORSE and doing even LESS and people are just like.. YEAH BUT HEXTALL or YEAH BUT MALKIN AND KARLSSON.

Malkin is currently 130th in Salary and 71st in production.

EK65 is 13th in scoring amongst defensemen and 2nd in Salary.

Ya i get its Dubas first year but he has been non existent since the season started. all the player movement (Recalls) look like sully is at the helm them.

Is Dubas still even here?

It's obvious that Hextall and Dubas are getting the same mantra from ownership or they've both came to that same decision on their own either way...

It's just weird how nobody is calling out Dubas for making a worse team.

I could tell this team sucked on July 1st and we weren't going to make the playoffs.

Kinda funny once again that we will trade the best winger of the Sid and Malkin era outside of Hossa for spare parts. As soon as we took Yager we knew where this was going.

He's waiting for the pesky core to bugger off so he can play with the wreckage.

Huzzah.
I do get the impression that if it were truly up to him, he’d blow this whole thing up and go into a full rebuild.

Which many have said here before, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an agreement between ownership and management to at least try for a couple years and then he can fully dive into a proper rebuild.

Dubas will be fired before any rebuilding can go down.

This team is f***ed for a long time especially if he tries to sell off pieces now.

So long as they patently refuse to do the one obvious thing they aren't REALLY trying IMO. Hell they won't even fire the doofus assistant coach running a historically bad powerplay.

As if Mike Sullivan would make a good rebuilding coach. When is the last time he developed NHL talent from the ground up? Six years ago? Dom Simon?

In all seriousness; yeah, probably. I don't think even dipshits like FSG sign Dubas for seven years without the bulk of his work coming with the tear down and rebuild phases.

Still not a huge fan of his first summer though, EK dropping into his lap for free aside. But I'll reserve judgement until the post-Sid phase, cuz this era's death certificate was signed years ago thanks to JR, Hextall and Sullivan.

First big test, imo, is how Jake's handled.

I imagine Mike Sullivan is getting kicked upstairs at this point if they are unwilling to fire him in a year where "they are all in".

lol where do you get this kind of optimism?

He hasn't even started his extension, yet. He'll be coaching here for years. They MIGHT reset his staff after this season. He's the Mayor, man. Beanpot Masshole of The Year, or whatever. FSG thinks this guy shits gold bricks and this is all Malkin and EK's fault or something.

Oh. I'm not saying that happens now lol.

I'm saying he is never fired and he just moves up to an AGM role in a few years.

That would be a relief IMO. I think his damage can be somewhat mitigated from upstairs.

Of course then he's still a large part of dictating what kinds of players are on the team. And I would assume he would even be in on the process of hiring his replacement. So who knows. All I know is they have drug their feet way too long on way too many things and this is all a waste of breath at this point. They missed the boat and are now solidly in that shitty in-between limbo area.
