Yeah I was gonna say the Shelly article was actually pretty even-handed.

A little insane for anyone to be attempting to say the season is on the knife's edge and it's all down to one guy and just one guy. But hey whatever.

I don't think that's the takeaway from that article. She says:

I think that's pretty spot on.

I know…the thank you was from her reasonable take and not facetious, but there’s a lot of articles around about Geno stepping up or fan outrage at him today lol

I just wish pens brass had some balls like LA and Bucks (NBA) did. LA fired McLellan after they set new record with 11 straight games won to star the season, and are in the playoff spot, but when they went 3-7-5 in January, he got canned.

Bucks fired their coach when they had 2nd best record in NBA (30-13) but they didnt like how there was a dip in the defensive play, so they canned him.

What has Sully done so far this season to warrant him still being around? Jan record of 4-4-3 isnt much better than LAs really, but here we are, still with him as coach.

LOL @ the Kings firing McLellan because the Kings are underperforming, yet Sullivan's still as untouchable as though he's sporting a 46-0 record.
Setting the Sullivan aspect aside, the Kings fired McLellan because they're in a complete nosedive. They've lost 14 of 16 and they've got players calling each other out publicly in the media. It's a disaster.

As opposed to the fantastic shape the Pens are in? Hell, the Pens went through that stretch I believe last year where they lost like 9 of 11. I'm pretty sure you made excuses for Sullivan during that stretch.

You should be opposed to the Kings firing their coach because what if the next guy is worse? Maybe instead of losing 14 of 16, they lose 16 of 16?!

NHL returning to the Olympics in 2026 and 2030.

You know Sid wants to play in 2026. I'm sure Geno wants to play one last time, too, but the Russia-Ukraine situation may impact that. It looks like athletes from Russia will be able to participate in the Summer Olympics, but as neutral competitors. That's easy enough for individual athletes, but it remains to be seen how that would work for a hockey team.

The Penguins are among the top ten in points since December.

As far as firing Sullivan, I'm fine with it. I just think they should do it after the season, when the pool of candidates is much stronger and they can poach coaches with fresh ideas like Jeff Halpern or Marco Sturm. It's not just about right now, but the next several years. Even if you're just developing players and not competing for a playoff spot, you want the best coach/teacher/motivator possible, and you're most likely not getting that with a midseason change.

It'd probably going to work exactly like ROC/Taiwan in practice, but who knows if the athletes will agree to it?

But 2026 is a long way away, hopefully the war is long over by then.

Not really comparable still. Even though I've said a billion times that a change is due. the Pens are not in their prime and have a pretty good record since December despite having an atrocious powerplay. The Kings were 1st in their conference in December and are close to falling out of the playoffs altogether.

Missing the forest for the trees. The point is teams make coaching changes when it's clear the coach either has lost the room or whatever he's preaching just isn't working. Sullivan's message hasn't worked for a few seasons now.

People focusing too much on "yeah but they were fine last month" or "but the Kings lost 14 of 16" miss the bigger point about Sullivan. He's had similar "rough patches" that get all these other coaches fired, but his name isn't even brought up as on the hot seat.

That's the point. That's why this is laughable. Other teams make changes when it's obvious a change is needed, but the Pens just keep extending him.

This aged like milk considering what I just posted.

Seravalli is a laughingstock at this point. He quit TSN for some unknown reason and ended up having to go out on his own, and he's lost his marbles more and more since then. He's also got a weird fetish against the Pens and especially Dubas. He kept speculating but refusing to actually report that Dubas had turned down the Pens or wasn't going to take the job, only for the opposite to happen.

Yeah, Seravalli may be connected but he's a weirdo.

The only people who give a f*** about players showing up to dorky media days are the reporters asking them stupid questions to get reactions out of them. Not one fan gives a shit if Sid shows up to media day. Barely any fans give a f*** if he shows up to the lame ass All Star game at all.
