Yea, no.

Puustinen's 1st 10 games: 14.16 TOI, 1 G, 6 A, 7 Pts, 3.14 PPTOI
Puustinen's 9 games since Rust came back: 8:13 TOI, 0 G, 0 A, 0 Pts, 0.47 PPTOI

He was demoted when Rust game back and has not had a sniff of going back even though the offense is terrible. He is showing nothing because you'd have to be a superstar to produce with that deployment and those linemates. He's not a superstar. He's a complimentary scoring winger that this team needs very badly but the coach is too stupid to utilize his roster the right way.
I understand that, 100 percent, what I am saying with this coach, you have to produce or show that you are dangerous when playing with Eller and whoever is else there. There is no reason not to chip in playing with Eller and Rakell who are probably as good as Bonino and Hagelin...I feel for Puustinen, but thats the story ...

After his time on the 2nd line where his linemates were Geno and Smith, his most common linemates are Eller and Zohorna.

Rakell just got bumped down. There is a chance he and Puusy can give the 3rd line an offensive pulse, but again playing 5-9 mins a night does make it hard to get in a rhythm, which is a factor. These guys aren’t robots. When you’ve been sitting for 13 minutes straight it’s not exactly easy to just fly and score the next shift.

You cannot blame a guy for not producing offense with Radim Zohorna and Lars Eller. Well, I mean you could, but it wouldn’t make sense.

This coach routinely puts players in a position to fail and we wonder why they fail and then look like decent to good NHLers when they go to another team like the growing list of former Pens succeeding elsewhere.

That 'Finishing' rank is just bonkers.
I think it's a driving factor of why it's so "infuriating and frustrating" to watch them. While we see glaring shortcomings on a regular basis, I do think most of us sense that they ARE better than maybe what we see night in and night out.
Speaking of Reinhart, what's he looking at for a new contract?

I know he's on pace for 60 G and over 100P, but he's shooting a bonkers 27.3%. Surely NHL GM's aren't going to pay him like he's a 100 point player, right? .....right???
He's been good value for them for several years. I can't fathom a situation where they let him walk. And...yeah, he's going to get paid. I can easily see $8.5-9.5mil.

Surely not.

They’ll pay him like he’s a 130 point player.

and expected goals against.....if it wasn't for above average goaltending we would be cooked (if we are not already).
As Vensal notes in that PG article I quoted, goaltending has been falling in January and is no longer propping them up, which could account for why we’re back to a .500 record lol

I know. Any good player becoming a FA is a long shot, let alone willing to sign with the Pens. But that's the type of guy they should be targeting IMO. I would gladly trade in 2 of Rakell, Rust, and Smith for 1 impact forward like Reinhart, particularly because he's a goal scorer with a RH shot for the PP.

Fun stat, Reinhart has 18 PPG this year. Pens as a team have 19

No really good FA is going to sign with the Pens this offseason, especially one who hasn’t won a Cup lol…any good players we bring in in the future will need to be from trades, and the draft of course…FA signing may be guys not given QOs by their respective teams…

Goaltending was also letting them down in the first month of the season, but for some reason, this board seems to have forgotten that the goalies have one specific job and it’s to stop the puck.

Fleury and Murray got cooked for better play/results than Jarry, but this board insists that shitting all over yourself once in three starts is a success for the ages.

I’ve given up trying to have an intelligent discussion about it on a planet devoid of intelligent life.

sullivan isn't looking for his third liners to produce, they're regularly getting sub 5 minutes a night. he just doesn't want to play them

Sullivan is smarter than all of you combined.

We can’t start the rebuild as long as Sid is here. If Sid has to play 40 minutes a night, Sid will die soon. The sooner Sid dies, the sooner the rebuild starts.

if he was traded to PGH today, that would be the only 18 PPG for this season anyways...

Been going downhill for awhile as we age so no surprise to me…also our coach loves no-hands grinders lol to play his north-south hockey…

DK heavily defending Sullivan and his position not to fire him in his podcast this am lol

Hell, you could've just started a game day thread with this and your graph...

Oh ye of little faith lol. Horvat just got paid for 1 season of production way above his average production. NHL GMs aren't the sharpest tools in the sheds.

This is from Vensel’s “From the Point” article today:

• Strong goaltending was the primary reason the Penguins made their push during December — that and their power play briefly performing as anticipated. But Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic have struggled this month, and it has cost them points. Jarry in particular has allowed a few softies at critical moments.

• Another thing I (and others) have noticed is that Jarry in recent weeks has been beaten blocker side on some longer shots, most of them off the rush. Until he gets his positioning straightened out, teams will continue to target that.

and you think the coaches don't know? ..:badidea:... never mind.:banghead:

He'll somehow give Jeff Carter like four shifts in the last 7 minutes of a game that we're down a goal in though.

My favorite is when he does this with the team in an empty net situation and Carter's so bad that his line immediately gives up the SHG before Sid gets a chance to come out again.

Jarry's inconsistent and keeps reverting back to the guy who lets in softies way too often? I'm shocked.

I would say "sign long term" at the moment. You might get a decent guy or two that would opt for a 1yr deal to improve his stock for next year. We saw that with Bertuzzi and Zucker this last year.

Especially if we trade Jake and there is someone that thinks being on Sid's LW is a good way to pump stats for a bigger contract. I could see a number of guys being interested in that.
