Team is a couple changes away from being pretty solid. Swap Smith for a different top-9 forward and jettison Carter to Siberia. Acquire an NHL calibre 3RD if possible.

Problem is they have literally no cap space. Have to hope some team takes Smith's entire cap and then we can get 50% retention on his replacement

Is giving him an AHL tryout really courting him?
I think so

Considering we are max cap, have more players than slots on the NHL team, poolparty was NEVER good at NHL, is coming off of major surgery...

Like.. What's the point of even sitting down and giving him a PTO when Kessel is out there unsigned?

.. Yeah phil would also be a bad signing lol

Not sure who would quit first if Dubas signed Fatty, Sully or Geno. Either way its not happening.

I still don't see how that's courting him. Courting him would be wining and dining him, showing him around the city, giving him whatever money he wanted, whatever spot in the lineup he wanted, etc. Ya know, kinda like what they did with Dubas. Letting him join some practices and play in a few AHL games to maybe earn a league minimum 2-way contract is the lowest level of 'courting' someone I've ever heard of...if you want to call it courting at all.

I don't even want that to happen

Just being belligerent

Poolparty is just SO Pens... Go after a guy fice years after it might have been interesting to do so
Best case scenario for him is that he gets a league minimum contract, no one is going to offer him more. At that point he can be waived to the AHL for no cap hit. Dubas is looking at options, nothing wrong with that. Now how Sully would/will use him is a different story. But thats a Sully problem, not a problem with the player himself.

Washington got royally f***ed with this week's schedule.

3 games in 4 nights? Yet they still beat the Pens with a whack roster and then got dunked on by the Devils and Canes.

Seeing Kane, maybe the procedure by that doctor will provide injuries like this a better recovery rate. Backstrom is probably just done because it's multiple surgeries for the same issue, but Puljujaarvi, we haven't seen him in anything since he's recovered because he can't sign an AHL deal or with the Pens just yet.

Because clearly we need more Harkins first. Also at this point where would he play? I don't want him in over Doc or Puusy. Sullivan's been trying to sabotage Puusy the last few games as well with the usage bullshit.

Productive player ceases to be productive under Mike Sullivan....where have I read this book before? At this point it's a series of novels.

The Pens played 3 games in 4 nights that culminated in the Caps debacle…happens all the time…the NHL has too many RS games

Usually players have a great first year under Sullivan and then drop off. With EK and Smith they had a great first 15 games and have been pretty meh since then

Omg…the BS has started early this morning…isn’t he the guy that’s alternating shutouts and giving up 3 goals in quick succession lol

Don't be a wanker, it's everyone else's fault Jarry is struggling with consistency and always has been.
He'd be the perfect goalie if not for everyone else.

To be fair, he’s been pretty consistent for the last…month? Definitely wasn’t to start though

Today’s practice from Taylor…maybe Smith elsewhere in the lineup will be a longer change lol…here’s hoping

Radim Zohorna just tripped and crashed hard into the boards. He looks like he's hurting but he's laughing at himself as he gets back in line for the next run.

• So, no actual line rushes yet but in these three-on-three drills, Drew O'Connor is working with Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust. Then it's Jansen Harkins with Lars Eller and Jeff Carter, and Reilly Smith with Noel Acciari and Valtteri Puustinen. Again, not real line rushes but a little interesting.

• Moving onto power play work now, so no lines today then.

• PP1: Erik Karlsson, Jake Guentzel, Sidney Crosby, Rickard Rakell, Malkin.

• PP2: Kris Letang, Smith, Puustinen, Carter, Rust.

• That's a wrap on practice after 35 minutes.

On the bright side, what he IS/WAS good at is what Harkins is supposedly good at. Just scrambling for a silver lining lol.

Geno needs some help on his line so you give him two young, fast players in DOC and Puustinen and see what happens. Make a 3rd line of Smith - Eller - Rust and you should have one of the best 3rd lines in hockey.

Having 3 lines that can score, at least in theory, should boost this team, take some burden of the 1st line and make a push for the playoffs possible.
